JOB DESCRIPTION

Bee Compliance was launched in April 2020, with the goal of providing accessible, client focused compliance services to democratic and progressive organizations and candidates. We understand that every organization and campaign is different, and we aim to provide a tailored and comprehensive compliance experience to each of our clients—which means transparency, ample review times, and “reconciled to the penny” reports. We offer a wide range of services including drafting, reviewing, and filing required campaign finance reports with relevant regulatory bodies (FEC, Secretary of State, etc.), as well as basic accounting and bookkeeping services.

Job duties

This role will have a lot of room for growth and development as the organization itself continues to expand in the lead up to the 2026 election cycle. This is a cycle position with an end date of January 31, 2027.

The Accounting Associate will be responsible for providing day to day bookkeeping and payroll services to Bee Compliance Clients, and will assist our compliance team members with regular information regarding financial activity. This position will support the Accounting Manager and has the opportunity for growth as we continue to build out our financial services offerings. The Accounting Associate’s primary duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Acting as secondary point of contact for all client accounting needs

  • Preparation of regular/weekly reporting for client consumption

  • Accounts payable processing

  • Revenue recording

  • Reconcile bank accounts

  • Assist in preparation of 1099-MISC/NEC for consultants and vendors

  • Processing payroll and reimbursements

  • Special projects as they arise

Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience in accounting or bookkeeping, either internally at an organization or at a firm. Familiarity with political campaigns and non-profit organizations (501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) specifically) is a plus.

  • A collaborative working style with the desire to pitch in on a variety of tasks

  • Capacity to manage multiple competing projects

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

  • Strong organizational skills to ensure that deadlines are met and partners are informed of project status.

  • Robust technical skills (Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft OneDrive, Google Workspace applications, Gusto, Expensify and Quickbooks Online is desired, but the ability to learn new programs is required)

  • A sense of ownership over your work and proactivity in seeking guidance and direction, when needed

  • Prior bookkeeping experience a plus

While the organization is currently remote, there is a preference for candidates in Washington, DC, where business operations are based.

Compensation and benefits

Starting salary for the Accounting Associate is $52,500 per year. Bee Compliance offers a generous benefits package, which includes three weeks of paid vacation, two weeks of personal/sick time, an employer sponsored 401k with 3% employer contribution, and 100% Employer paid Medical, Dental and Vision insurance. New staff members are also provided with all of the required technical hardware and software needed to complete their work (laptop, monitor, security key, Microsoft office, Adobe, etc).

Bee Compliance observes a four day work week, and we anticipate the schedule for this role to run Monday through Thursday each week.
