Job Description

**_Pennsylvania Community Organizer - Contract Role_**

**_Who We Are_**

At [COURIER Newsroom](https://couriernewsroom.com/about/), we empower people and communities to connect with the news, opportunities, and issues impacting their lives. We believe that giving local journalists stronger platforms, access to audience data, and opportunities to grow with—not against—changing social media trends can significantly impact civic participation in a state—and build a healthier democracy from the ground up.

Through original reporting, kitchen-table storytelling, and approachable explainers, we’re passionate about making the news real—and interesting—to our audience. We’re a rapidly growing team with new ideas on how to change the political landscape of this world.

The primary goal of our Community Department is to build trust and deepen engagement with our “core audience”—passive news consumers and Americans who typically get most of their news and information from social media and via newsletters.

**_Job Description_**

The PA Community Development Organizer is responsible for the building and stewarding relationships in Pennsylvania with mission-aligned organizations, individuals, and content creator communities, with the goal of developing coalitions to strengthen pro-democracy media and factual, relevant information sharing infrastructure in the Keystone state.

This role takes on actionable, measurable opportunities to increase organic reach of Keystone Newsroom content, provide valuable insights and disinformation training to partners, and connect organizations with reporters to amplify programmatic work, key movement voices, and humanize/localize policy in meaningful ways for Keystone’s core audience. In addition, the Community Development Organizer will actively seed content and create strategy around digital organizing in relation to content and products the Keystone team produces.
The Community Development Organizer will report to the National Organizing Programs Manager, and will work closely within the state team structure with the community and political content producers.

**_Responsibilities include but are not limited to:_**

- Meet weekly metrics for partnership outreach and active partnership development
- Build content distribution pipelines in Pennsylvania
- Execute a learning agenda for content seeding in online communities
- Build database infrastructure on grassroots partnerships
- Stewardship of partners, including monthly communication goals and routine 1:1 check-ins, as well as opportunities to gather for special briefings, trainings, and roundtables
- Build storybanks for essential reporting beats through partner collaboration and community outreach
- Work to find and develop in-state content creators to help distill our newsroom reporting
- Build out training modules for partners and co-hosting trainings with partners
- Providing data infrastructure feedback for monitoring and measuring efficacy of organizing programs
- Support in-state events through audience builds and advance work
- Collaborate on any new relational organizing + civic education projects that develop in 2024
- Stay connected to other digital organizers in the states, and develop opportunities to come together in community to find efficiencies and ways Keystone content can be a part of broader organizing structures
The ideal candidate will have:
- Have at least two cycles of experience working with grassroots activist groups, mission aligned nonprofit organizations, and local political stakeholders, and be able to leverage those networks in Pennsylvania
- Digital organizing experience and proficiency in all major social platforms
- Ideas about building and stewarding online communities
- Comfortable in a start-up environment and enthusiasm for testing and learning in both programmatic and tactical innovation in the digital organizing space
- Comfortable pitching and building new relationships
- Dedicated to stewarding existing grassroots partnerships
- Interest in collaborating with state and regional influencer networks
- Passionate about protecting democracy through strategic local news, and interest in working directly with our state teams to support content creation in a variety of ways
- Comfortable on camera
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines, weekly metrics, and drive programmatic goals forward
This is a contract position for $5,000/month, funded through December, 2024. It is mostly remote, but will require some weekend and in-person work/flexible scheduling.
