Maria & Luis Ordonez for District Leader
Overview: We are excited to offer an opportunity for individuals passionate about local politics and community engagement to join Maria & Luis Ordonez for District Leader as Field Organizers. Maria & Luis Ordoñez are lifelong Harlem residents and progressive candidates for District running to fight for tenants’ rights, greater civic engagement, resources & services for our community, and a more accessible & transparent Democratic Party.
The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct voter outreach activities, provide voters information about the candidate & campaign, and mobilize support for the campaign. This is an hourly position suitable for individuals passionate about progressive politics and community involvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Knock on doors within assigned neighborhoods to engage with voters, distribute campaign literature, discuss the candidate's platform and key issues, and motivate voters to turn out to vote for the candidate.
Collect data on voter preferences, concerns, and contact information using campaign-provided technology and tools.
Engage with voters to hand out literature and communicate the candidate's positions on key issues, our campaign’s platform, and differentiate them from opponents.
Provide information to voters about upcoming elections, polling locations, registration deadlines, and absentee voting options.
Collect and record voter feedback and responses in our field system, in a timely and accurate manner.
Collaborate with team members to achieve campaign goals.
Represent the campaign professionally and positively at all times.
Qualifications:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with voters from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Knowledge of local communities within the designated district is a plus.
Ability to speak & communicate in Spanish is a plus, but not required.
Prior experience in canvassing, political campaigns, or community organizing is a plus, but not required.
Enthusiastic for progressive values.
Requirements:
Part-time (minimum 8 hours a week) commitment for the duration of the position.
Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Reliable transportation to travel within the designated district.
Cell phone for regular communication with the campaign.
Compensation: This position is in-person, temporary & hourly, with a duration aligned with an end date of June 24, 2025. Compensation will be hourly, $17/hr.
