The Vermont Democratic Party (VDP) is hiring a part time Senate Caucus Director to manage the Senate Democratic Caucus from the end of the 2024 Legislative Session, through the August primary and the 2024 November general election. The Senate Caucus Director will be responsible for supporting the Caucus and Senate candidates around Vermont with communications, candidate recruitment and training, campaigns, fundraising, and oversight. Democrats currently hold 22 of the 30 seats in the Vermont Senate. This position reports directly to the VDP Executive Director; working closely with the Senate Majority Leader and Caucus leadership. The position is based in Montpelier, VT.
 
Ideal candidates will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and responsible self-starters with proven leadership, management, fundraising and writing capabilities, and interpersonal skills. This is the perfect job for someone looking to launch a career in campaign politics.
 
DUTIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to)
 
- Serving as the primary Senate Caucus contact.
- Managing internal and external SDC communications.
- Helping recruit and train candidates
- Writing campaign plans, advising on message, mail, targeting, fundraising, ad other issues that may arise
- Producing fundraising materials and event planning.
- Building a fundraising relationship with the Caucus. Maintaining and expanding donor lists, including institutional and high-dollar donors.
- Developing a finance plan and maintaining records to create internal budget and finance reports.
- Opposition research.
- Organizing and conducting trainings for candidates, volunteers and staff.
- Building relationships with constituency and advocacy groups and leveraging those relationships into actionable campaign activity.
- Establishing relationships with town and county Democratic committees for recruitment and relationship management.
- Developing and implementing a direct mail plan.
- Working with established Senators to implement constituent outreach plans.
- Producing form letters, emails, newsletters, and other communications both for the Caucus and for individual Senators.

DESIRED SKILLS
 
- 1-3 years of campaign experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Vermont legislative process.
- Ability to execute strategic goals and work effectively with state and local leaders.
- Ability to track and report regional activity in an accountable structure.
- Experience with NGP and Votebuilder.
- Political or non-profit fundraising experience.
- Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to allow for frequent evening and weekends in the office, and travel around the state.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
 
SALARY
​
This is part-time position funded at $3,000 per month, with the possibility to develop into a full time position in the fall with strong fundraising from the caucus.
