General Description:

LCV believes our earth is worth fighting for because everyone has a right to clean air, water, and a safe, healthy community. To ensure those rights are protected, we help people use their power to shape policy, hold politicians and polluters accountable, and influence elections.

For more than 50 years, LCV has grown into a potent political force for protecting our planet and everyone who inhabits it. We have built a powerful national movement with 30 state affiliates, and grassroots and community organizing programs across the country.

LCV played a major role in advocating for the successful passage of the historic Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which included $369 billion in climate and clean energy investments. Combined with climate investments in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, these historical investments create unprecedented opportunities in all fifty states to implement climate solutions – from renewable energy to clean transportation to resilience – that will dramatically cut carbon pollution while creating clean energy jobs and advancing climate justice.

The climate movement faces the challenge of ensuring that state and local governments, as well as community stakeholders, are fully aware of and taking advantage of the opportunities these investments create. This requires educating and engaging policymakers at all levels of government, building awareness campaigns that reach grassroots communities, and driving a media narrative that conveys the importance of fully scaling the climate solutions the Affordable Clean Energy plan offers. We’re also committed to raising awareness about the equity and jobs benefits the Affordable Clean Energy Plan brings with key stakeholders in low-wealth communities, communities of color, and unions.

LCV is seeking an Affordable Clean Energy Plan Implementation Intern who will support the Senior Director for Federal Climate and Clean Energy Solutions in doing action-oriented research and preparing advocacy-focused briefs and campaign materials to support LCV’s efforts to engage policymakers and grassroots members promoting the benefits of this historic law. The person in this role will join a Spring 2025 internship cohort that will have access to development opportunities including a Capstone project, informational interviews with staff, and organization-wide training and discussions.

Intern Will Gain Experience in:

  • Understanding strategic pathways for engaging policymakers to use their influence to champion climate and clean energy solutions.

  • Action-oriented research that supports grassroots climate and clean energy campaigning.

  • Synthesizing policy documents outlining Affordable Clean Energy plan benefits and translating them into accessible grassroots advocacy materials.

  • Understanding of how IRA benefits help key individuals and/or key stakeholders (e.g. schools, cities, etc).

  • Familiarity with the fast-paced work of LCV’s policy and advocacy work.
