JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a highly connected and strategic ** Communications Consultant** based in Arizona. This is a part-time, fully remote, 1099 contract position. In this role, you will lead localized media efforts on behalf of a major environmental NGO client, focusing on advancing clean energy and water conservation policies and projects within Arizona. The ideal candidate is deeply embedded in the Arizona media landscape and has a proven track record of securing earned media and shaping public relations strategy. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Media Relations: Leverage your existing network of Arizona press contacts (print, digital, broadcast, and radio) to proactively pitch and secure earned media coverage. 

  • Opportunity Identification: Monitor local and state news to identify strategic opportunities for media coverage regarding clean energy and water conservation policies and projects in Arizona. 

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Agave Strategy team, our client(s), and other partners to develop and execute comprehensive public relations campaigns that support specific political and policy objectives within the state. 

  • Content Creation: Draft press releases, media advisories, op-eds, and talking points tailored to the Arizona media market and political landscape. 

  • Advising: Provide on-the-ground insights and strategic counsel regarding Arizona’s political climate and how it intersects with environmental and conservation issues. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Must be based in Arizona. 

  • Demonstrated experience in public relations, political communications, journalism, or a closely related field. 

  • Strong, pre-existing relationships with political, environmental, and local reporters/editors across Arizona. 

  • Familiarity with clean energy initiatives, water conservation policy, and the environmental advocacy landscape in Arizona. 

  • Ability to work independently as a 1099 contractor, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines in a fully remote environment. 

  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required
