Launched in 2018, The Movement Cooperative (TMC) is a nonprofit founded with the aim of creating a cooperative community addressing these structural challenges. Currently, our membership stands at nearly 75 national member organizations, 13 state-based member organizations, and over 800 affiliate member organizations covered under our licenses. We leverage the collective purchasing power of our membership to secure cooperatively held data and technology licenses shared across membership and invest in common infrastructure like technical staff to support our members in their work. TMC is a member cooperative -- our board is primarily elected by and made up of representatives from our member organizations.
The Associate Director of Finance is a leadership position responsible for the accurate and timely recording of revenue and expenses to the General Ledger, adherence to GAAP and internal financial policies and procedures, providing financial analysis and accurate reporting, and coordinating with all TMC departments to meet the requirements of TMC members. The individual in this role will join an evolving accounting and finance team and will be involved in the development of departmental policies and procedures, and actively participate in TMC management activities. The position supervises the Finance Account Specialists, works collaboratively with the Director of Finance, and is supervised by the Chief Financial Officer.
Management of the finance account specialists, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments to vendors, suppliers, creditors, and other parties involved in business transactions.
Day-to-day staff management includes:
Developing and maintaining team culture that reflects the mission of TMC, commitment to servicing members, and professionalism
Making sure staff are following TMC policies and procedures and are actively contributing to a healthy culture
Regular coaching, mentoring and inclusive communications
Designing professional development plans based on assessment of areas of growth
Maintaining a healthy feedback cycle
Supporting staff in their cross-departmental responsibilities
Representing staff concerns, successes and needs to leadership
Management of member invoicing to ensure adherence to MOU and EULA agreements and TMC policies and procedures
Communicate with members in a positive, open and proactive manner
Has enthusiasm for problem-solving for members, especially with an eye to making member work easier during busy seasons
Works closely with the Sr. Program Manager, Contracts to ensure accurate and timely setup and renewal of membership MOUs, vendor EULAs and other formalized agreements. Monitor and reconcile membership renewal and tool income schedules to ensure proper billing.
Joins relevant compliance working groups and channels to proactively support a healthy cross-departmental contracts and renewals process
Attends member 1:1s as it pertains to high-level contract/finance challenges.
Ensure accurate account coding of all transactions, identify, and correct discrepancies, and provide revisions to finance account specialists in a timely manner.
Prepare and analyze A/R aging reports. Initiate collection activity based on best practices and in conjunction with other departments/leadership and the Board as needed.
Manage/perform Cash Management activities. Ensure daily recording and appropriate allocation of cash receipts to outstanding invoices and recording expenses to the appropriate GL code and department
Ensure TMC systems are set up and synching accurately to produce ongoing AR/AP and financial reports. Coordinate with vendors to make synch adjustments as needed.
Work with Finance leadership to maintain and iterate on cash flow documentation
Manage/record monthly credit card and staff reimbursement expenses into the general ledger
Create and enforce reconciliation process with relevant staffers
Onboard new staff, members, and vendors regarding financial policies and processes
Help create and maintain TMC finance 101, policies and procedures training for new members and refreshers for existing members
Develop team productivity reporting and standards to ensure appropriate workload capacity and accuracy.
Participate in the development and reporting of constellation OKRs
Assist in the preparation of CEO, Management and Board of Director periodic reporting
Develop strong relationships with member organizations, resolving issues equitably with compassion and caring to ensure member satisfaction
Assist in the analysis of financial data to inform the forecast of future revenues and expenses
Ensure proper documentation to ensure accurate tax withholding and reporting
Participate in annual budget development process
Skills
Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger and contracts
Understanding and clear track record of adherence to GAAP
Minimum 2 years management experience, union environment a plus
Experience with accounting software packages, including implementations and enhancements
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented with a passion for accuracy
Collaborative disposition with experience working in a team environment
Enthusiasm for creativity in problem solving and a unique adaptability to the needs of a multifaceted organization
