OVERVIEW
From August 19-22, 2024, Democrats from all over the country will gather together in the City of Chicago to participate in the Democratic National Convention, where we will nominate President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for re-election. The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) is assembling a diverse team with skills in community engagement, event logistics, finance, operations, IT, and more. The DNCC team will oversee and deliver on all aspects of the planning and execution of this Convention, from housing the delegates to convening Platform Committee meetings to producing the Convention’s live programming, which will be seen by hundreds of millions of people around the world.
SUMMARY
The People & Operations team is responsible for ensuring all employees, consultants, and volunteers are set up for success in their roles at the 2024 Democratic Convention. The Associate Director of People will work closely with the Director of People & Operations and the Deputy Executive Director to support recurring HR responsibilities, organize staff events, and lead on special projects.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage team events and outings, supporting the finance and people team on planning and execution of team functions
Work cross-functionally with all departments to ensure their teams are set up for success with both operational processes and physical set-up
Assist with onboarding and offboarding routines including prepping work stations, managing onboarding workflows, and proactively creating processes for offboarding
Prepare documents outlining organizational processes, flows, and Q&As
Recruit, train, and support with volunteer management
Be a point of contact for staff HR and operational questions
Work with Directors and other staff ad-hoc on special projects
Collaborate on planning offboarding process for rapid shutdown post-convention
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Detail-oriented and organized self-starter with effective problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills and high emotional intelligence
Previous experience in project management and scheduling a plus
Exemplary problem-solving, interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
An ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Time management and independent judgment required to plan, prioritize, and implement a complex workload
Willingness to be a proactive team member to help accomplish the goals of the Convention including an “all hands on deck” attitude and “no job is too small” attitude
TRAVEL
There is no travel expected for this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The DNCC will mainly operate out of the Headquarters Office, but will also maintain a number of satellite offices and additional venues. All of these spaces are professional office environments, and will require the operation of office equipment such as computers, phones, and copy machines. This position mainly uses an assigned workstation but may require movement or maintaining a stationary position for short or long periods of time. Employees may be asked to do tasks requiring dexterity or lifting items weighing up to 10 lbs. All employees may request a reasonable accommodation to perform their job tasks.
ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP
SALARY: The anticipated salary is $110k annualized. The DNCC also provides health, dental, and vision benefits as well as 401k.
