Job Title: Associate Director of Philanthropy

Reports to: Director of Philanthropy

Job Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt

Arizona Center for Empowerment (ACE), is a community-led and driven organization committed to raising new leadership in Arizona through confronting the most pressing needs of its often-under- served communities. Its sister organization, Living United for Change in Arizona (LUCHA), is an organization led by changemakers fighting for social, racial, and economic transformation.

We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented fundraiser to lead our grants management work and build new fundraising tracking systems to ensure efficient and effective fundraising. Candidates must have excellent writing and verbal communication skills, be familiar with the national and local philanthropic sector, and be aligned with our organizational mission and values. Ideal candidates will have a basic knowledge of C3 and C4 organizations and the fundraising implications or the proven ability to quickly grasp this knowledge. 

 

What You'll Do:

 

  • Grant management

  • Identify, research and pursue prospective funding opportunities;

  • Build and maintain relationships with current and potential funders;

  • Write, develop and prepare foundation grant proposals and reports for C3 and C4 work

  • In partnership with Director of Philanthropy and the Executive Director, create strategies and concepts for each grant funding opportunity;

  • Manage the annual grants/reports calendar to ensure smooth, timely workflow and meet all deadlines;

  • Help develop, and then maintain records for, annual grant income actuals vs. projections;

  • Assist in the development and assembly of all relevant component materials, including grant budgets, and ensure that each submission complies with the proposal parameters and detailed requirements of each funder;

  • Help steward and acknowledge all grantors/potential grantors;

  • Collaborate across departments to gather and include relevant information and data into each proposal or report;

  • Track grants and grantors in the database system thoroughly and in a timely manner.

  • Development systems

  • In partnership with Director of Philanthropy, develop, recommend, and implement policies and procedures related to the grantmaking processes

  • Identify and implement new data software to better track development conversations, relationships, and other key data 

  • Team and organizational leadership

  • Support the Director of Philanthropy in developing a fundraising strategy for ACE and LUCHA

  • Support work to build a culture of fundraising into the organization. Support staff in building consistent narratives about our work.

  • Other

  • Compose correspondence, prepare presentations, reports, and other ad-hoc assignments, such as Google Slide presentations, collection, analysis, and summary of information using Google Sheets or other Google Suite programs. 

  • Timely distributes business communications..

  • Protect the integrity of confidential information in all matters.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills: Can produce compelling, well-organized grant proposals and reports. Aims for accuracy and attention to detail. Speaks clearly and compellingly on behalf of the organization to a range of current and potential funders in Arizona and across the country and with a range of giving potential. Can learn, internalize, and incorporate our “voice” in both written and verbal communications. 

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented: Has, or can create, a system for keeping tasks from slipping through the cracks. Able to juggle competing demands and prioritize without sacrificing quality. Plans backwards to make deadlines. Notices and fixes errors that others might overlook. Has a track record of leaving things better than they found them.

  • Familiarity with the national and local philanthropic sector: Have some familiarity working with the local and national philanthropic sector that funds social justice organizations like ACE and LUCHA.

  • Aligned with our mission and values: Aligned with our mission to educate, empower, and engage our state's working families to create solutions to issues of social and economic justice.

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience of at least 3 years’ experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired as necessary.

  • Ability to take on projects related to organization with minimal oversight.

  • Ability to have a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
