Overview
Better Ballot Georgia, a volunteer-driven statewide 501c3 organization that educates the public about ranked choice voting (RCV), is looking for a part-time or full-time Volunteer Organizer to work on the front lines of an educational campaign to support upgrading Georgia’s voting system to ranked choice voting (RCV). Hiring and supervision will be managed by Rank the Vote, which is a national grassroots organization founded by RCV activists.
This Organizer will be a key part of the team working to build broad positive recognition of and support for RCV in Georgia. Working hand-in-hand with the Board, Executive Director, coalition partners, and other statewide grassroots leaders, the Organizer will harness tools to help drive success at local events and actions, train volunteers, and reach growth goals to expand support for RCV in Georgia. They will conduct smart and compelling campaigns across digital and in-person mediums to attract supporters, drive volunteer engagement, develop grassroots fundraising, and win endorsements for RCV as an improvement for elections at all levels.
Core Responsibilities (80%)
Volunteer Management:
Build, manage, and coordinate teams of volunteers working across various campaign functions (field, fundraising, speakers, administrative, communications).
Work with volunteer Team Leads to implement the organization’s strategic goals and help volunteers know they are making a meaningful contribution.
Work with the leadership to ensure the organization has adequate volunteers, engagement, and volunteer structure to support organizational goals.
Develop repeatable, trainable workflows to boost engagement and drive success for events and projects. Work closely with volunteer Team Leads to train and support them in managing their volunteers and executing movement methods effectively.
Train volunteer leaders in relationship, coalition, and organizational building tactics and strategies. Conduct coaching sessions and training on all aspects of movement methods enabling and inspiring action.
Communicate with volunteers and Team Leads as needed to recruit for tasks and events, and maintain engagement.
Develop and maintain relations with national/state/regional volunteer groups in the electoral reform space.
Devise and maintain a system for thanking and/or rewarding super-volunteers.
Field:
Work closely with the leadership and statewide organizing team to establish operational priorities and meet aggressive monthly goals for scheduled and ad hoc voter outreach.
Develop and manage independent field teams of volunteers statewide to educate the public about RCV, while growing the volunteer and donor base. Enable volunteer teams in doing regular canvassing, hitting monthly target goals to grow a supporter list while fostering a positive public opinion of RCV.
Administrative:
Maintain accurate records of active volunteers, projects’ statuses, and contacts to report back to leadership.
Facilitate data entry into CRM for accurate record keeping and support list management
Delegate responsibilities to volunteers, inspiring them to act and ensuring the tasks are completed.
Develop and maintain work processes to enable volunteers in coordination and communication.
Additional as needed: (20%)
Communications:
Deliver messaging and communications across email, text, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media to educate the electorate and engage supporters.
Work with leadership to deliver messaging about RCV that is compelling, timely, and aligned with public polling results and the current news cycle.
Communicate status updates and action items to local RCV supporters and allied organizations driving engagement and collaboration.
Fundraising:
Recruit hosts for House Parties fundraisers and coordinate invitations.
Run phonebanks to dial for dollars.
Work with the Fundraising Team to craft newsletters and run targeted social media and other ads to raise funds.
Qualifications
Essential Experience: 1+ years campaign/organizing experience. Demonstrated experience with personnel/volunteer management. Excellent meeting facilitation and mentoring skills. Experience with metrics-based capacity growth and goal-setting and moving volunteers from online to offline direct actions.
Preferred Experience:
4+ years as an Organizer or Team Lead of an active non-profit or campaign management
Lobbying / advocacy experience for issue(s).
Volunteer training and management experience for 3+ years.
Rural organizing experience.
Excellent written communication skills.
Prior grassroots fundraising experience.
List-building and/or fundraising experience for issues or candidates is a plus.
Understanding of the Georgia political landscape
Goal Setting/Achievement: Show planned/achieved goals and tracked metrics/accomplishments in resume.
Tech skills: Competence in project management platforms (Google Suite, Slack, Asana), and grassroots activism platforms (such as NationBuilder, CallHub, NGP VAN/VoteBuilder). Competence with spreadsheets. Competence with data entry into CRM systems (record filtering, record editing, file imports, and data exports).
Characteristics: Passion for RCV and a commitment to continued learning, drive, vision, obsessive attention to detail, proven team management skills, an unwavering positive attitude and good humor, an eagerness to receive feedback and course-correct. Adherence to an ethos of non-partisan public relations and messaging, including engagement with individuals from a broad spectrum of political views. Exceptional people skills and emotional intelligence.
Timing: Must be available on evenings and weekends to ensure maximum engagement with volunteers and leaders.
Travel: Work is hybrid, with a varying amount of in-person and remote work needed, depending on season, strategy, and tasks. Weekly events in metro Atlanta in most seasons, with some travel (up to 25% of time) statewide to assist state volunteers on an in-person basis and facilitate organizational goals. Any travel that requires you to be away from home overnight, or significantly outside of your area, will be reimbursed.
Residency: Resident of Georgia.
Language: Spanish speaking proficiency is a plus.
Schedule:
Fractional (part time) to Full-Time (Many evenings and weekends required)
Compensation and Contract terms:
If Full-Time: Commensurate with experience, $45,000-$60,000
If Part-Time: Payment range is $25-30/hr
Full-time employees receive benefits, including medical, vision, dental, and unlimited PTO, 16 holidays, and 8 sick days. Voluntary benefits include the ability to participate in a 401k retirement plan and to purchase disability insurance. Part-time employees accrue sick leave in accordance with state law.
