Blue Tennessee is a monthly giving community that crowdfunds for underfunded Democratic nominees running in some of the reddest districts in the state. Blue Tennessee is supported by a Board and by the Executive Director of Every State Blue. The Executive Director of Blue Tennessee will help implement our strategic vision for Blue Tennessee – helping grow our Blue Tennessee community and serve as its public face. The ED will also attend and organize virtual monthly meetings of the community, support our social media efforts, and manage Board relations. This is a part-time, remote consulting position with a starting monthly stipend of $1,500-2,000 with strong potential for growth as the community expands. The position will report directly to the Executive Director of Every State Blue.
The Executive Director is responsible for carrying out Blue Tennessee’s strategic direction, operations, and advocacy efforts to advance its mission. This role requires a dynamic leader with excellent public speaking skills who can build the Blue Tennessee community and serve as its public face.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan to build, recruit, and support the Blue Tennessee community
Articulate the organization's vision, mission, and political objectives to stakeholders and the public
Seek out, build and maintain relationships with members and potential members, the media, key political figures, allied organizations, and donors
Advocacy and Communications
Serve as the primary spokesperson for Blue Tennessee in media appearances and public events
Identify and foster relationships with allied organizations and individuals
Maintain and build social media presence
Seek grants and major donors and lead fundraising events
Board Relations
Collaborate with the Advisory Board to set organizational priorities
Provide regular updates to the Board on the organization's performance and landscape
Qualifications
Understanding of Tennessee’s political processes and the Tennessee legislature, advocacy strategies, and current political issues
Demonstrated facility with social media
Good technical skills or willingness to learn (including, for example, facility with use of the computer, Zoom, Canva, Mobilize, Google docs and Google sheets, Slack)
Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
Leadership experience in nonprofit or political organizations desirable; political activism and/or participation in political nonprofits also desirable
Ability to build and maintain relationships
Demonstrated communication and public speaking skills
Familiarity with grant seeking, fundraising and member and donor relations
Prior experience either running for office or assisting with a state legislator campaign highly desirable
Must be able to travel within the state if necessary

The right candidate will be organized, responsible, self-sufficient, and self-motivated – a proactive self-starter and creative problem solver that is able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. This role will work closely with Every State Blue’s Executive Director and other Every State Blue leadership.
