Who We Are

The North Alabama Area Labor Council, AFL-CIO is a democratically elected body of union members that represent the interests of working people at the state and local level across seven counties in North Alabama. 

What You’ll Do

The Campaign Director, who is based in North Alabama and reports to the Community Solidarity Committee Chair, is responsible for the following:

  • Managing two part-time organizers

  • Maintaining relationships with coalition partners

  • Organizing and facilitating county listening sessions

  • Supporting fundraising efforts as needed

  • Identifying new coalition members and partners

  • Supporting the development and execution of campaign strategy

  • Performing other duties as assigned

  • Strategic thinker: The campaign director will have to prioritize and manage the needs of multiple stakeholders 

  • Interpersonal communication and relationship building: The ideal candidate for this role is outgoing and skilled at direct communication. They are not afraid to make phone calls and strike up conversations with strangers. 

  • Curiosity: This type of campaign is new to our organization and North Alabama in general. The person in this role should be ready to ask thoughtful questions as well as figure out how to find answers on their own. 

  • Commitment to working class solidarity: You recognize that most everyone is working class, and deserves dignity and transparency from our political leaders

Knowledge of healthcare policy or prior experience in labor organizing are both plusses, but are not requirements. 

If you were here right now, you would be:

  • Creating a listening session turnout toolkit for coalition members

  • Supporting engagement with affiliated and not-yet-affiliated unions

  • Writing a report on past four listening sessions to send to coalition partners

  • Identifying new coalition partners

  • Filling out a grant application
