Join the Alex Valdez for Hudson County Commissioner campaign as we work towards electing Alex Valdez as the Democratic nominee for Hudson County Commissioner for District 9 in the Democratic primary on June 2nd. Our campaign is powered by grassroots support and is dedicated to serving the people of District 9 – East Newark, Harrison, Kearny, Jersey City and Secaucus – and ensuring our communities are affordable, safe, and clean for the next generation. We are seeking interns to join our campaign team for the Primary Election. The program will run through Friday, June 5th.
As the only contested County Commissioner primary in Hudson County, this is a hands-on opportunity to gain real experience on a competitive, community-driven campaign and play a meaningful role within our team executing our campaign plan. You will have the opportunity to embed directly with Alex, the senior campaign team, and important stakeholders in District 9 to gain insight into the day-to-day of a competitive political campaign, build essential skills, and significantly contribute to helping us win.
What You’ll Do
Assist with field organizing, including attending and leading Direct Voter Contact efforts like canvassing, phone banking, & community outreach events
Utilize the VAN voter file database to optimize direct voter contact strategies
Analyze election data to inform strategic campaign decisions
Help with campaign operations, including volunteer coordination and event planning
Conduct research on local organizations, stakeholders, and issues
Aid with campaign fundraising, including candidate call time
Design text-based, graphic and video social content
Capture high-quality pictures and videos for various campaign needs across District 9
Edit photos and videos to create polished and engaging digital content
Have clear access to, and work closely with, senior campaign staff on day-to-day priorities

Regular access to a vehicle or another way to travel around the district is preferred.
Some experience working or volunteering for political campaigns is a plus.
Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi or Gujarati language proficiency is a plus.

Location: Hybrid (HQ in Kearny, events elsewhere in Hudson County, and some remote work)
Regular access to a vehicle or another way to travel around the district is preferred
Time Commitment: Flexible (10–20 hours per week preferred)
Compensation: Unpaid; academic credit available
