JOB DESCRIPTION

Overview

Darden Copeland for Congress is seeking motivated and energetic interns to join our team ahead of the November 2026 general election. Fresh off a primary win for Tennessee's 7th Congressional District, our campaign is heading into what we believe will be one of the most competitive House races in the country this cycle. Interns will gain direct, hands-on experience across field organizing, communications, and campaign operations while working alongside an experienced political staff. Recent internal polling indicates Darden is trialing the Republican incumbent by only 5 points, making this the closest Congressional race in Tennessee this cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct voter outreach through phone banking, text banking, and door-to-door canvassing

  • Recruit, train, and support campaign volunteers

  • Maintain and update voter contact data for the campaign

  • Assist with planning and logistics for campaign events, including rallies, town halls, and house parties

  • Research district issues, local media coverage, and opponent positions

  • Provide general administrative and office support

  • Represent the campaign professionally at community and volunteer events

A Typical Day May Include

  • Morning check-in with field or communications staff to review priorities

  • Several hours of voter contact work (calls, texts, or canvassing in a target area)

  • Data entry and voter list management

  • Preparing materials for an upcoming event or canvass launch

  • Daily tasks vary depending on where the campaign is in the election cycle (e.g., GOTV pushes, event weeks, volunteer pushes)

Qualifications

  • Genuine interest in grassroots politics and this campaign

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable engaging directly with voters

  • Self-motivated, organized, and reliable

  • Reliable transportation preferred, given canvassing across the district

  • No prior campaign experience required — training provided

Compensation

This is an unpaid internship. College credit is available and the campaign will complete any required paperwork or evaluations for your academic program.

Location & Schedule

Based in Nashville, TN, with travel throughout the 7th District (Davidson, Sumner, Cheatham, Dickson, Montgomery, Robertson, Trousdale, and Macon Counties). Fuel costs will be covered by the campaign. Flexible scheduling available for part-time or full-time interns; internship runs through Election Day, November 3, 2026.
