The Campaign Manager will serve as the chief strategist and operational lead for a competitive race in the New York State Assembly's 65th District, which includes neighborhoods in Lower Manhattan, including Chinatown, the Lower East Side, Tribeca, SoHo, and parts of the Financial District. The Campaign Manager is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive campaign plan to win a Democratic primary and/or general election. This role requires strong political judgment, disciplined execution, budget management, and the ability to lead a diverse team of staff, consultants, and volunteers in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Campaign Strategy & Planning
1. Develop and implement the overall campaign plan, including the pathway to victory, voter targeting, and field benchmarks.
2. Build and manage a detailed campaign calendar aligned with ballot access deadlines and Board of Elections requirements.
3. Coordinate with consultants (compliance, communications, digital, mail, polling) to ensure cohesive strategy.
4. Monitor political landscape, endorsements, opposition activity, and district dynamics.
Field & Voter Contact
1. Design and oversee a robust field program including canvassing, phone banking, relational organizing, and volunteer recruitment.
2. Set and track weekly voter contact goals using voter file tools (e.g., VAN).
3. Ensure culturally competent and multilingual outreach appropriate to AD-65's diverse electorate.
4. Manage ballot access operations, including petitioning strategy and compliance.
Fundraising & Budget Management
1. Create and manage campaign budget in coordination with the treasurer.
2. Oversee the daily call-time program and track fundraising goals.
3. Coordinate donor events and support the finance committee development.
4. Ensure compliance with New York State Board of Elections reporting requirements.
Communications & Messaging
1. Work with the Communications Director to develop a message framework and narrative.
2. Oversee earned media, press engagement, and rapid response.
3. Prepare the candidate for debates, forums, and endorsement interviews.
Required:
1. 2+ cycles of campaign experience, including at least one in a senior role (e.g., Deputy Campaign Manager, Field Director, Finance Director).
2. Demonstrated success in meeting measurable campaign goals.
3. Strong knowledge of the New York City political landscape and Democratic primary dynamics.
4. Experience with VAN, Google Workspace, and basic budget tracking tools.
5. Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
Preferred:
1. Experience in New York State legislative races.
2. Familiarity with AD-65 communities and local political clubs.
3. Multilingual ability (Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, etc.) is a plus.
4. Experience navigating New York's public matching funds system.
Compensation
1. Salary range base: $5,000 (Negotiable based on experience)
2. Position concludes after the general election unless otherwise extended.
Work Environment
This is a high-intensity campaign environment requiring evenings and weekends. The Campaign Manager is expected to be present in the District regularly and maintain proximity to Manhattan operations.
