JOB DESCRIPTION

Dr. Nikhil Wagle is running for the Iowa Senate in SD-47 and is looking for a campaign manager who can supercharge his campaign to the next level. Iowa Senate District 47 is on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities, bordering Illinois and on the Mississippi River, and is a top flip opportunity for Iowa Senate Democrats. Success in this district is also vital for ensuring Rob Sand wins the Iowa governor’s race, we flip Iowa’s open US Senate seat, and we win IA-01, a top DCCC red-to-blue toss-up.

Nikhil is already building a really strong campaign—last year, he raised the third highest total of any incumbent Senator or candidate after the majority and minority leaders, and he is continuing to raise strongly so far this year. Nikhil is acquiring the resources he needs to win, and now he really needs a campaign manager to make victory a reality.

The Campaign Manager will be responsible for drafting and executing a campaign plan, including a finance and organizing plan, as well as managing a campaign budget. They will also be responsible for managing the candidate’s time, ensuring the campaign is achieving its goals, and working with any relevant official-side staff.

This position will require campaign hours and district-wide travel. The salary is $4,725 per month, and core benefits include healthcare, paid vacation, and paid sick leave. In-district supporter housing is available upon request. Additional incentives and benefits may be available. This position may begin remotely, but will be expected to relocate to the district.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must be highly organized, able to multitask and manage multiple deadlines, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. This position is ideal for previous organizers or finance assistants who are looking to learn more about other aspects of the campaign and manage the big-picture strategy of a campaign.

An ideal Campaign Manager candidate must possess:

  • 1 cycle of campaign experience. Field organizing experience and/or fundraising preferred, but not required.

  • Experience using NGP/VAN, ActBlue, and other campaign software (Google Suite, Mobilize, Every Action, Action Network, etc.).

  • Able to build relationships and learn about the political and cultural landscape of the district quickly.

  • Quick problem-solving skills and solutions-oriented mindset.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once and keep calm in stressful situations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Previous experience working for state legislative candidates is preferred but not required.

  • Previous experience working in Iowa, rural communities, or purple states is preferred but not required.

  • Experience and/or interest in creating vertical video and other content for social media, and implementing strategies to grow audience engagement and reach.
