About Longhorn Organizing Strategies

Longhorn Organizing Strategies is a new, Texas-based grassroots organizing and voter mobilization firm that provides best-in-class canvassing, voter registration, and relational organizing services to progressive campaigns, committees and advocacy organizations throughout the Lone Star state. **Position Title: **Canvass Manager

**Reporting Structure: **Regional Project/Office Director

**Rate of Pay: **The salary for this position is $60,000 to $66,000 a year

**Job Classification: **Full-time, exempt

**Schedule: **Full-time (40 or more hours per week, and can reach 70+ hours at peak times)

Location: On-site, Dallas, TX

Position Summary

Canvass Managers will assist in recruitment, training, and management of Team Leads and Paid Canvassers in a regional door-to-door canvassing program. Canvass Managers will work closely with the Regional Organizing Directors, Project Director and our Operations team to meet ambitious goals.

Canvass Managers will work in regional canvass offices and spend time in the field with Team Leads and Paid Canvassers. Canvass Managers must be true self-starters and problem-solvers, and be able to work effectively with and manage a diverse team who come from a variety of backgrounds. We will provide comprehensive job training for new hires and we strongly encourage potential applicants who have the qualified skills for the position to apply, regardless of prior campaign experience. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with training and management of canvassers in the field, including pre-shift briefings and post-shift debriefings.

  • Work with the Regional Organizer and Project Director to implement, adjust and improve the training program.

  • Day-to-day management of up to 5 Team Leads and up to 30 Paid Canvassers

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years of management experience, which does not need to have occurred within canvassing programs.

  • Detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to foster a cooperative, team-oriented work environment

  • Ability and willingness to work a demanding schedule, which can reach 70+ hours per week at peak times and can be expected to include evenings and weekends

  • Strong desire to create progressive change in the community

  • Reliable vehicle and proof of driver’s insurance

  • All candidates must possess a cell-phone, laptop computer

PLUS QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of VoteBuilder, MiniVAN, or Blocks

  • Prior volunteer or paid canvasser management

  • Proficiency in Spanish.

Essential Physical Requirements

  • As this is an in-field position, the individuals must be able to stand, walk, and meet with canvassers in the field for the duration of the work day.

  • Individuals in this position must be able to communicate with colleagues and partners in person, via phone, including conference and video calls, as well as written communication such as email.

  • This position may entail other travel for training and meetings.

  • This position requires vision/hearing abilities.

COMPENSATION:

The salary range for Canvass Managers is $60,000 to $66,000 a year. The role starts between July 29 and August 05, depending on project start times, and ends no later than November 15, 2024.
