Position Summary

  • Position: Canvasser 

  • Reports to: Canvassing Manager

  • Location: Pima County, AZ

  • Salary:$23/hour (maximum of 30 hours per week)

  • Start Date: ASAP

 

The Rural Arizona Engagement and Rural Arizona Action (RAZE/A) Canvasser is a dedicated and dynamic individual responsible for engaging with voters and promoting the interests of the Organization. The primary objective of this role is to build support and garner votes by conducting direct outreach to potential constituents within a designated area. As a face of the Organization, the Canvasser plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and mobilizing voters to participate actively in the electoral process.

 

Responsibilities

Canvassing Operations

  • Conduct door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, or virtual outreach to connect with voters. This involves engaging in meaningful conversations, answering questions, and discussing the candidate's platform or the cause's key issues.

  • Distribute literature, flyers, and other promotional materials to potential voters to increase visibility and awareness of Organizational mission and values.

  • Coordinate with other staff and volunteers to align canvassing strategies with broader Organization objectives. Participate in regular meetings to provide updates and receive guidance.

  • Adhere to all relevant legal and ethical guidelines while conducting canvassing activities, ensuring compliance with campaign finance laws and voter protection regulations.

  • Provide regular reports to campaign management on canvassing activities, progress, and any challenges encountered on the field.

 

Voter Registration & Education

  • Provide accurate information about the Organization's positions on various policies, initiatives, and objectives. 

  • Address concerns, dispel misconceptions, and explain the significance of voting in local, state, or national elections.

  • Facilitate the voter registration process by guiding eligible individuals through the completion of registration forms and ensuring they are well-prepared to exercise their voting rights on Election Day.

Must Haves:

  • Strong Communication Skills:

  • The ability to articulate organizational messages clearly and persuasively.

  • Active listening skills to understand voter concerns and adapt messaging accordingly.

  • Interpersonal skills to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and build rapport quickly.

  • Persistence and resilience to handle rejection and difficult conversations with voters.

  • Commitment to Social Justice & Racial Equity: 

  • Recognizes the role of race, gender, and other identities in shaping health disparities, is driven to improve conditions, and proactively learns re: race, equity, and identity.

  • A commitment to our shared progressive organizational values and a shared commitment to advocate for working-class & BIPOC families in rural Arizona.

  • Highly Organized & Self-Directed: 

  • Strong organizational skills to manage canvassing routes and track voter interactions.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, especially during election seasons.

 

Nice to Haves:

  • Previous experience with political campaigns and/or as a canvasser

  • Basic data entry and analytic reporting experience

  • Knowledge of political issues, policies, and the Organization’s values

  • Basic technology proficiency for data entry and using Organization software or apps (i.e. Paychex, Expense Wire)

  • Fluent in both English and Spanish
