About NAL/NALAF:
New American Leaders (NAL) and New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF) are dedicated to building an inclusive democracy by preparing first- and second-generation immigrants and refugees to run for office, win elections, and govern with integrity. NAL/AF are the only organizations solely focused on equipping New Americans to enter the political sphere and govern responsibly. Through our programs, we empower leaders to take action at every stage of their political journeys, from gaining campaign skills to advancing their governing abilities.
The Recruitment Consultant's objective is to strengthen NAL's Central Valley, California program by expanding outreach to first and second generation Americans with the goal of equipping them with the tools needed to engage in civic and political life. In addition to recruiting 15 participants for one of NAL’s signature training programs designed to kick-start or enhance their political journey. In addition to this, the consultant will host an event to bring these individuals together to foster connection and shared purpose. The Consultant will also focus on fostering partnerships with local civic engagement organizations and elected officials to build a network of support in the region. Knowledge of political campaigns or volunteer experience in this field is a plus. The contractor will work in alignment with NAL’s values of inclusivity and equity.
Deliverables:
Work Plan: The Consultant will prepare a comprehensive proposal and work plan utilizing NAL’s processes. This plan will outline how they intend to achieve the project goals including metrics, and a detailed timeline.
Central Valley Political Landscape Guide: The Consultant will update the Central Valley Political Landscape Guide to offer an overview of the current political climate, trends, issues, stakeholders, and analysis of races in 2025.
Partnership proposal: The Consultant will prepare a comprehensive proposal aimed at securing 10 partnerships with local civic engagement organizations, elected officials, and funders. This will include record-keeping with relevant contact information and a history of their interactions when acting as a NAL representative.
Partnership and contact transfer: The Consultant will ensure that all organizational, applicant, and elected official contacts related to this project are effectively documented and transferred to the appropriate NAL staff member.
Recruitment outcomes: The Consultant will achieve the goal of recruiting at least 15 participants from the Central Valley to attend one of NAL’s training programs nationwide.
Alumni networking event: The Consultant will successfully plan and execute a 25-person alumni networking event in the Central Valley, including all necessary arrangements and a detailed event program.
Event attendance: The consultant will staff the Alumni networking event.
Coaching: Provide recommendations of at least 10 Central Valley alumni for NAL coaching program.
Elected Official engagement: The Consultant will have engaged with and recruited at least 10 elected officials in NAL programming by the end of the contract.
Final report: At the completion of the contract, the Consultant will provide a final report detailing their work and provide recommendations for growth in the Central Valley.
Requirements:
Attend check-in meetings and provide updates on the progress of deliverables.
Regularly check and respond to emails and Slack messages.
Create and maintain spreadsheets to document research and build institutional knowledge.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications:
Campaign or organizing experience as a volunteer or staff member is preferred.
Excellent relationship cultivation skills, facilitation skills, and the ability to relate to a diverse group of individuals or organizations. Expert interpersonal skills in dealing with principals, lawmakers, potential donors, and colleagues.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, protocol, and a commitment to high quality work
Forward-looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions
Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
Familiarity with NAL programming, either as an alum or supporter.
Demonstrated knowledge of California state and local political landscape, with a focus on the Centrally Valley region.
