About DJs at the Polls:
DJs at the Polls is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan nonprofit organization that places DJs at polling locations across target states on Election Day to create a celebratory and welcoming voting environment. Our mission is to increase voter engagement and make the democratic process accessible and enjoyable for all.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and creative ** Communications and Operations Intern** to join our team working on the April 1st Wisconsin Supreme Court election. This role will focus on supporting our Communications efforts spearheaded by the Deputy Director. Work includes drafting and editing copy, managing website content, and supporting media outreach while assisting with operational tasks to ensure the success of our programs. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, highly organized, and passionate about making a difference through civic engagement.
Responsibilities:
Draft, edit, and proofread copy for newsletters, social media, press releases, and website materials.
Assist in maintaining and updating website content to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Support media outreach, including creating press materials, drafting pitches, and tracking media coverage.
Conduct research on voter engagement strategies, media trends, and potential partners.
Assist with administrative tasks, including scheduling, maintaining contact lists, and organizing documents.
Collaborate cross-departmentally to support other teams as needed.
Provide support in the days leading up to April 1st (Election Day) and on Election Day.
Qualifications:
Current student or recent graduate preferred; we will work with students to provide internship credit if desired.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Connections/experience in Wisconsin is a plus
Proficiency in website management tools (e.g., WordPress or Squarespace) is a plus.
Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to commit to at least 8 hours per week, with flexibility to work up to 20 hours per week.
Availability all day on April 1st (Election Day) and generous availability in the days leading up to Election Day. (We will provide a work excuse for class or activities if needed.)
Enthusiasm for civic engagement is required; understanding of Wisconsin or the DJ community is a plus.
Experience in or contacts within Wisconsin is a plus
