Position Title: Communications Assistant
Reports to: Digital Director
Start Date: September 1, 2025
Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Location: Hybrid -Washington DC, (Hybrid) - 4 days a week in the office
J Street is looking to hire a communications assistant who will help us take our local, grassroots engagement email program to the next level. The chosen candidate will be an online voice for a major advocacy organization working on some of the most important — and contentious — foreign policy debates of our time. They’ll work with our communications and engagement teams in a fast-paced political advocacy environment.
The ideal candidate will be creative, a strong writer with digital content experience and a knowledge background in J Street’s issue area. There is significant room to shape the role to the individual’s interests and skills alongside delivering support for our nationwide engagement team as they work to build events and fundraisers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Draft, review and implement J Street’s regular email communications, to include: Recap emails, roundup emails, Government Affairs digest, JSPAN and leadership emails
Work with J Street staff across the country to write and target local and national events email invites, including designing graphics and creating sign up pages
Ensure J Street’s website is regularly updated, including posting blogs, statements, updating the homepage, updating event pages and other relevant updates
Assist with monitoring the J Street email infobox
Support the communications team on graphic design work
Support communications team on social media posts with video editing and regular posting
Other comms assistance as needed
Webinar/Substack live administration
Updating internal trackers (social, email, indicators)
Proofreading and editing emails, statements, blogs etc
Required Skills/Qualifications
Exceptional writing ability
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Familiarity with J Street’s issues, particularly the US-Israel relationship and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict
Ability to work independently, taking initiative to set and meet professional goals
Ability to work collaboratively across the organization
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Some proficiency in Canva, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator
Prior experience with databases such as Salesforce and ActionKit or similar
Proficient in or willing to learn basic HTML

Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this full-time non-exempt position is $55,000-$60,000. Per J Street's Collective Bargaining Agreement, pay and title are commensurate with experience and according to pay bands outlined in our CBA. J Street recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in J Street’s bargaining unit and is covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
