JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communications Director to lead all aspects of media relations, press releases, speeches, and public communications for Devon's dual campaign for Position 6 on the McKenzie School District #68 School Board in Finn Rock, Oregon, and Position 6 (at-large) for the Lane Education Service District Board of Directors in Lane County, OR. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the public narrative, managing the campaign’s image, and developing strategic communications plans that resonate with diverse voter bases. This role is pivotal in ensuring consistent and impactful messaging across various channels, engaging with the media, and overseeing the creation of all campaign communications materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies to enhance the candidate's visibility and support campaign objectives.

  • Write, edit, and distribute press releases, speeches, op-eds, and campaign statements.

  • Manage media relations, including pitching stories, responding to media inquiries, and building relationships with journalists.

  • Oversee the campaign's online presence, including content for the website and social media platforms, ensuring consistency in messaging.

  • Coordinate with other campaign departments to ensure a unified message across all platforms and activities.

  • Monitor media coverage and public perceptions of the campaign, adjusting strategies as necessary.

  • Prepare the candidate for interviews and public speaking engagements, including debate preparation.

  • Lead crisis communication efforts, providing timely and strategic counsel.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, or related field. Advanced degree preferred. A degree will not be necessary if you have the relevant experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, media relations, or a similar role, preferably in a political or non-profit setting.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of producing high-quality, engaging content.

  • Strong understanding of the media landscape and experience in dealing with press on a local and national level.

  • Experience in developing and implementing communications strategies that have successfully met or exceeded objectives.

  • Ability to work under pressure, manage crises effectively, and meet tight deadlines.

  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing a team.

  • Deep understanding of political campaigns and the education sector is a plus.

  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
