JOB DESCRIPTION

Planned Parenthood Advocated of Oregon (PPAO) is hiring a  **Communications Director **to join our team!

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon is a leading advocate in the movement for sexual and reproductive freedom for all Oregonians. As the statewide advocacy and political voice for Oregon’s two Planned Parenthood affiliates — Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette and Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon — we engage in educational campaigns, grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy and other activities to champion people’s reproductive rights and make health care accessible and affordable.

The  Communications Director is responsible for the creation and implementation of strategic, multi-faceted communications plans and narrative-power building programs that advance Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon and Planned Parenthood PAC of Oregon’s mission, vision, and values and raise our profile as a reproductive rights leader in the region.

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with other department directors, the Communications Director is responsible for developing and implementing ambitious communications, digital, and media strategies; content and editorial calendars; and collateral, messaging, and other deliverables that support and advance Planned Parenthood’s fundraising, advocacy, electoral, and organizing work. They build and manage relationships; synthesize complex issues; and amplify organizing and advocacy campaigns by leveraging messaging, storytelling, digital, and media to energize and activate Planned Parenthood patients, the public, and key decision makers.

The Communications Director acts as an organizational spokesperson and coaches and supports others to be spokespeople. They ensure message alignment and quality of communications campaigns across the regional and national Planned Parenthood entities. They actively monitor national, state, and local media, issues, trends, and cultural moments to provide crisis communications counsel, as well as recommendations for our engagement or positions on an issue. The Communications Director will also play a critical role in the development of dynamic and effective donor and fundraising strategies in close partnership with the Executive Director and staff.
