IfNotNow is building a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, cross-class movement of American Jews to organize our community to end US support for Israel’s apartheid system and call for equality, justice, and a thriving future for all Palestinians and Israelis. Scope:
The Communications Director is responsible for IfNotNow’s public voice and communications strategy across traditional media and digital platforms. The Communications Director leads the Communications Department to develop and tell a coherent and compelling story about IfNotNow’s ongoing organizing, including both rapid-fire decision-making and big-picture thinking about how to make critical narrative interventions in discourse around Israel-Palestine as American Jews. The Communications Director is also a member of the Organizational Leadership Team, responsible for overall organizational culture and strategy.
Responsibilities:
Narrative & Campaign Strategy
Collaborate with Organizing, Political, and Fundraising teams to track major news developments and identify campaign interventions in rapid response moments, develop short-term campaign strategy, and produce content to engage and mobilize supporters to take action
Collaborate with Deputy Communications Director to lead the development and implementation of IfNotNow’s long-term narrative strategy in line with political, organizing, and campaign priorities
Lead Communications Department to develop overall Communications strategy, including:
Develop IfNotNow’s public voice and brand to reflect current narrative and campaigning strategy, including managing creatives to generate branding, design, and logos
Oversee and approve all public-facing messaging, including talking points, statements, scripts, action visuals, curriculum, and digital communications.
Manage Digital Director, Data Director, and Social Media Manager to develop and execute digital strategy and content calendar for email, text, social, video, creative content, website, and digital fundraising
Manage Deputy Communications Director to identify traditional and earned media opportunities and support spokespeople through TV appearances, interviews, and op-eds
Develop messaging guidance, tools, and resources to support volunteers across the movement to take action.
Support Communications Team to develop and support structures for work to be driven, when possible, by volunteers, with leadership development plans.
Alongside the Political Director and National Spokesperson, coordinate with partner organizations, including soliciting ongoing feedback on narrative strategy
Management, Supervision, and Collaboration
Manage and coordinate the work of a five-person Communications Department and related communications consultants and volunteers to execute narrative strategy across multiple channels
Build relationship and capacity by clearly communicating performance expectations, inviting and delivering clear feedback, and identifying opportunities for growth
Manage the communications budget and use of team resources
Participate in the Organizational Leadership Team to support the organization’s overall culture and strategy, and deepen the organization’s commitment to volunteer leadership, racial equity and inclusion, and long term sustainability
Essential Qualifications
3-5 years of experience leading communications work, including 2+ years of management experience (preferably leading a communications team)
Excellent management and leadership skills, including demonstrated success in goal-setting, project management, and leadership development of staff and volunteers
Experience in communications, including:
Excellent writing skills: able to craft sharp, memorable copy under short deadlines and for different audiences; strong editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills
Familiarity working with traditional earned media
Understands how to use different communication channels and digital tools to create a cohesive narrative strategy
Experience with press management software, content management system (CMS) and constituent relationship management (CRM) software, or comfort learning digital tools quickly
Experience with design and brand identity, including working with creatives to use visual strategy to bring complex ideas to a wide range of audiences

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Comfort with digital campaigning and social media management, as well as familiarity with using digital platforms (such as Twitter, Instagram, and various email programs) to support movement communications and digital fundraising
Understands IfNotNow’s role, voice, and brand in the larger movement ecosystem
A clear sense of the media landscape on Israel/Palestine, American politics, and American Jewish community
Demonstrated relationships with reporters and editors and a strong track record of placing content
Familiarity with the Jewish community's relationship to Israel/Palestine, and an understanding of strategic choice points in speaking to a wide audience
Benefits & Compensation: The salary range is $60,000-$82,500 annually. IfNotNow determines compensation based on a variety of factors, including geography, experience, and a self-selected needs-based bonus.
