The Wisconsin State Senate Democratic Caucus (SSDC) is the progressive political organization that supports the election and re-election of Democrats in the Wisconsin State Senate. The SSDC is the political arm of the Wisconsin Senate Democrats. It is overseen by Democratic Minority Leader Dianne Hesselbein for the 2024 cycle.

Communications Director overview:
The Wisconsin State Senate Democratic Committee (SSDC) is seeking a Communications Director for the upcoming 2024 cycle to help the SSDC take back the Wisconsin Senate! The Communications Director will be responsible for leading the development and execution of earned media and messaging plans, acting as spokesperson for the SSDC when appropriate, maintaining and growing relationships with local, state and national press, and working with our Democratic Senate campaigns, incumbents, and organizations to hold Republicans accountable while amplifying Democratic values and accomplishments.
Communications Director responsibilities:
Acting as spokesperson on behalf of the SSDC
Planning and executing a caucus-wide communications and earned media events within targeted Senate Districts
Coordinating messaging and tactics with our campaigns, incumbents and partner organizations
Regularly managing relationships with local, state, and national press outlets.
Working across departments to ensure integrated messaging to achieve SSDC strategic objectives.
Working alongside and managing any communications needs/asks from Senator Baldwin’s and/or the President’s campaign.
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Communications Director desired skills and qualifications:
Significant relevant work experience building and deploying local and/or statewide communications strategies.
Relevant work experience on issue advocacy and/or campaigns.
Prior experience building and maintaining relationships with local, state, and national reporters.
Prior experience with building and executing a communications strategy that includes many constituencies throughout the state of Wisconsin.
Prior experience pitching press for in-person and virtual events or actions that garner earned media attention for a political or issue-based campaign.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Can maintain composure and remain calm under pressure and are nimble in a changing campaign environment.
Willing and able to travel.
Willing to perform other duties as assigned.
Communications Director compensation:
$7,000 monthly salary, commensurate with experience
