JOB DESCRIPTION

The Sue Altman for Congress campaign is looking for a highly skilled and passionate Communications Director to join our team in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. ** This is one of the top Red-to-Blue races in the country and will help determine the House majority. **

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-3 years of communications experience, preferably on campaigns, required.

  • Experience talking directly with reporters and serving in an on-the-record capacity.

  • Experience crafting and pitching stories directly to reporters. 

  • Experience managing social media accounts and generating engaging content.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and sound political judgment.

  • Excellent time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competency and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as cross-cultural skills.

  • Proven interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to build relationships with staff at all levels.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite. 

  • Willingness to relocate to the district. 

  • Reliable transportation, cell phone, and computer. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the on-the-record spokesperson for the campaign.

  • Field and respond to all press inquiries for the campaign.

  • Develop and execute all aspects of a comprehensive, long-term communications plan, utilizing print, digital, radio, TV, events, and social media to generate earned media coverage and proactive rapid response.

  • Build a consistent messaging calendar, including relevant events across the district. 

  • Write and edit all press releases, statements, media advisories, talking points, and op-eds for the campaign. 

  • Plan and implement local, state, and national press strategies that reflect the campaign’s priorities, including pitching stories.

  • Manage all campaign social media accounts. 

  • Advise the candidate and campaign on communications and messaging strategy to convey the campaign’s priorities.

  • Prepare and staff the candidate for all interviews, press conferences, and events.

  • Maintain strong relationships with local, state, and national press.  

  • Travel with the candidate to press events as needed.
