JOB DESCRIPTION

Climate Cabinet is “Moneyball” for Climate Change. We find under-the-radar elected positions that have an outsized climate impact. Then, we help candidates for these positions run, win, and legislate. We win climate majorities and deliver bold, equitable climate solutions in key state and local governments.

State and local policymakers are key to tackling climate change. They are responsible for achieving 75% of our Paris climate goals – and ensuring Biden’s climate investments are implemented in communities across America. Our opposition has known for decades that no amount of federal work can negate the key role of coordinated state-level political and legislative infrastructure for winning their priorities.

When we win elections and help climate champions in office pass bold policy, we get big things done. We need more climate allies in seats of power. That’s why Climate Cabinet exists.

**We’re hiring a Communications Director to execute a powerful communications operation that will build power for our movement and help us grow with us as an organization. **This director will lead press and PR work to elevate all Climate Cabinet brands, and amplify the impact of state and local climate champions in the media narrative across the US. As a small hands-on team, we’re looking for someone who is excited to lead on comms strategy and execute the work. This is a management position and leadership position that will report to organizational leadership.

Are you…

  • Fired up about 2024 state and local elections – ready to make an immediate impact?

  • Curious, ambitious, and looking to help scale a growing organization?

  • An excellent writer? A powerhouse press pitcher? An experienced program builder?

  • Dedicated to building political power to tackle climate change, advance justice, and build a better future

Key Responsibilities:

  • **Grow a powerful communications operation. **Own the Climate Cabinet brand and amplify our impact, voices, candidates, and theory of change to build political power.

  • Build a buzz: Get Climate Cabinet in the media through frequent press pitching, media relationships, and creative tactics. Place local and national stories to advance the Climate Cabinet brand, as well as to support specific candidates, legislation, or campaign tactics.

  • **Create content that brings to life **Climate Cabinet’s impact, candidates, and theory of change – to audiences including journalists, donors, policymakers/candidates, and the public. Ensure the highest quality content through robust copy-editing.

  • Develop an audience growth and marketing strategy with high impact messages.

  • **Multiply your impact **through periodic trainings, toolkits, press, and messaging support for Climate Cabinet’s candidates and policymakers, and by managing our Communications Manager.

**Location: **Remote – anywhere in the US. Preference for the following states: Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Illinois, New Mexico, North Carolina, Louisiana, Wisconsin. Some travel required.

Compensation

  • Salary: $100,000 or commensurate with experience

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance fully covered

"Moneyball” is a baseball term for using data science to find undervalued players with game-winning potential, a strategy to help scrappy teams defeat moneyed opponents.

You should apply! We encourage applications from people of color, women, LGBTQ folks, working class people, and members of other marginalized communities. Furthermore, if you don’t meet all of the exact job qualifications listed but feel called to the work — please apply. There are many ways to have developed the expertise necessary to excel in this position.

Who we are: We are a dynamic, passionate startup team of experienced climate activists, organizers, campaigners, utility researchers, software engineers, policy experts, and lobbyists. Our Moneyball approach speaks for itself. For example: In 2022, Climate Cabinet’s hard-side electoral program helped climate champions win majorities in Michigan and Minnesota – unlocking bold climate leadership across the Midwest, and leveraging those wins to pass 100% clean electricity standards. And last spring, CCA was the only climate organization to support Yemi Mobolade’s historic campaign for Mayor of Colorado Springs, putting a climate champ at the helm of a conservative stronghold with a fossil fuel-dependent public electric utility.
