Position Overview:
The Communications Director leads the Oklahoma Democratic Party’s messaging, media relations, and digital strategy. This position requires the ability to rapidly shift priorities in response to breaking news and political developments while maintaining a strong, proactive communications strategy. The Communications Director works closely with Party leadership at the state, county, and Federation levels to strengthen communication efforts and enhance outreach.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute comprehensive short- and long-term communications plans that align with the Party’s goals.
Monitor and respond to breaking news in real time, ensuring timely and effective messaging.
Draft, edit, and distribute news releases, media advisories, and official statements.
Cultivate relationships with journalists, pitch stories to media outlets, and coordinate press events.
Oversee the Party’s research and tracking initiatives to inform messaging and campaign strategies.
Manage all digital communications, including social media channels, ensuring content aligns with the Party’s voice and objectives.
Oversee website content management, design, and development to maintain an engaging and informative online presence.
Design and produce collateral materials, including graphics, promotional materials, and campaign literature.
Conduct media and communications training for local party committees and affiliated organizations.
Serve as a liaison between the Oklahoma Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to ensure message consistency, secure data transference from online communications, and facilitate resource sharing.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Strong writing and editing skills, with experience in press release writing and digital content creation.
Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with media relations, including pitching stories and coordinating press events.
Proficiency in social media management, website maintenance, and graphic design tools.
Knowledge of political communications, research, and messaging strategies.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Commitment to the values and mission of the Oklahoma Democratic Party.
Previous experience in political campaigns, party organizations, or advocacy communications is preferred.
Additional Information: This full-time position may require evening and weekend availability, particularly during election cycles. Some travel within Oklahoma may be necessary. The role demands adaptability, creativity, and a deep understanding of the political landscape to advance the Party’s communications strategy effectively.
Salary Range: The salary range for the Communications Director position can vary based on experience, but it is typically $41,600 - $59,000. This position is entitled to our comprehensive benefits package, which includes Health, Vision, Dental, and Short/Long-Term Disability insurance.
