JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

  • Position: Communications Director

  • Reports to: Co-Executive Directors

  • Location: Hybrid - Remote and in person at Coolidge, AZ office on Wednesdays

  • Salary: $85,000 - $95,000

  • Benefits: We offer a robust benefits package which includes: medical, dental, and vision insurance at no cost to the employee; 401k plan after 3 months; and unlimited PTO (+ quarterly org-wide week long breaks).

Rural Arizona Engagement and Rural Arizona Action (RAZE/A) are seeking a dynamic and experienced Communications Director to lead and manage our communication strategies, ensuring effective outreach, engagement, and representation of our organization's mission. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the challenges facing rural and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Peoples of Color) communities, coupled with strong leadership and communication skills.

 

Responsibilities

Strategic Communication Planning

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with the organization's mission and goals.

  • Collaborate with the executive team to ensure messaging consistency and alignment with organizational priorities.

  • Plan and execute marketing campaigns to raise awareness, drive engagement, and support fundraising efforts.

  • Collaborate with the internal and community teams to create compelling and culturally sensitive content.

 

Social Media Management 

  • Oversee all social media platforms, including content creation, scheduling, and community engagement.

  • Monitor social media trends and identify opportunities to amplify the organization's presence.

 

Public Information Officer Duties

  • Act as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and establish relationships with journalists/media outlets as needed.

  • Prepare press releases, statements, and other communication materials in coordination with the executive team.

  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans to effectively manage and respond to potential issues.

  • Provide guidance to the organization's leadership on messaging during critical situations.

 

Community Engagement

  • Foster relationships with community leaders, organizations, and influencers to enhance the organization's presence and impact.

  • Organize and participate in community events and initiatives to strengthen connections.

 

Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a communications team, providing guidance on professional development and ensuring team cohesion.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate communication strategies into overall organizational efforts.

 

Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • Proven experience in communications, preferably with a focus on nonprofit or advocacy organizations.

  • Understanding of the challenges faced by rural and BIPOC communities in Arizona.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Proficient in social media management and marketing tools.

  • Ability to navigate and respond effectively in high-pressure situations.

 

Nice to Haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Bilingual

  • An existing network of relationships and resources within Arizona’s rural and BIPOC communities
