Vikki Goodwin for Texas is seeking Communications Fellows to join the campaign's communications team for the 2026 General Election. Communications Fellows will work directly with the Communications Department to help execute the campaign's earned media, messaging, rapid response, and digital communications efforts.
This is a department-specific fellowship. Communications Fellows will be embedded within the Communications Department and will primarily support communications work rather than serving as general campaign interns. Fellows will receive hands-on experience in a statewide campaign communications operation while taking responsibility for defined projects and recurring work within the department.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer, closely follows news and politics, has excellent attention to detail, and is interested in developing the skills necessary to work in political communications. Prior campaign communications experience is helpful but not required.
Earned Media & Press
Assist with drafting press releases, media advisories, statements, talking points, and other campaign communications
Maintain and update press lists and other communications databases
Assist with press outreach and pitching campaign events, announcements, and other earned media opportunities
Track campaign press coverage and maintain an organized archive of clips and media mentions
Assist with preparation and staffing for press conferences, interviews, editorial boards, and other media appearances
News Monitoring & Rapid Response
Monitor Texas and national news, political developments, and opponent activity for relevant developments
Identify news stories and emerging issues that may create communications opportunities for the campaign
Conduct research to support rapid response, messaging, and earned media efforts
Help prepare background materials, research, and draft language in response to breaking news and campaign developments
Candidate & Message Support
Assist with research and preparation of candidate briefing materials, talking points, and other communications materials
Help ensure campaign messaging and public-facing materials remain accurate and consistent
Support communications planning around policy rollouts, endorsements, campaign events, and major campaign milestones
Digital & Message Amplification
Assist with drafting social media copy and other written digital content
Identify opportunities to amplify earned media, campaign events, endorsements, policy announcements, and other campaign priorities
Coordinate with the Content Creator and other communications staff to help turn campaign moments and earned media into digital content
Assist with basic graphics, video, or other digital content as needed and based on experience
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
An eye for preventing problems and helping the Communications Team stay prepared
Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Comfortable working with spreadsheets, databases, and other campaign technology
Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take feedback
Ability to work independently once trained while communicating effectively with the Communications team
Commitment to electing Democrats
Availability for occasional evenings and weekends as campaign needs require
Bilingual translation experience appreciated
Previous experience with political campaigns, elected officials, advocacy organizations, labor organizations, student media, journalism, public relations, or political communications is a plus, but not required.
Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software, media monitoring tools, or campaign technology is also a plus.
