POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Manager is a salaried, full-time exempt position, and will serve as the
communications lead at Poder NC. The ideal candidate is a people person who is highly motivated to
build and give voice to a developing Latinx youth base that will achieve self-efficacy and use it to
transform their communities. They are an experienced manager and storyteller, as well as an effective
marketer and project manager. As a leader and manager in a young organization, they’ll be expected
to help build an inclusive, equitable, and results-oriented culture.
Core responsibilities for this position include: supervising and nurturing the development of a
communications team with limited experience; providing context and plans for messaging on our top
issue areas; interpreting wonky policy and legislation for lay people, and guiding the content
development for various social mediums and platforms. In all these functions, the Communications
Manager will use culturally resonant and innovative strategies, and advance Poder NC’s mission by
centering our narrative work, ensuring that we continue to be positioned as a values-driven
organization in Latinx civic engagement, political engagement, and communications.
Required Competencies (unless otherwise noted)
Highly literate in GSuite, CRM, Mobilize, Every Action, Meta Ads, and other relevant communications tools
Knowledge of communications tools, media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods; includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
Demonstrated ability to successfully execute complex projects, including setting goals and developing a realistic work plan. Move people to action and hold them accountable with and without formal authority. Highly organized and strong attention to detail. Proven ability to manage complex schedules and responsibilities with minimal support or oversight
Working knowledge of policy issues impacting Latinxs in North Carolina and able to effectively communicate information to a lay person.
Skilled in implementing a social media strategy through use of multiple platforms.
Able to understand complex problems and review related information in order to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Able to communicate effectively with and relate to persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
Able to collaborate with individuals with various learning styles, work styles, personalities, and levels of experience.
Strong organizational & problem-solving skills & ability to work effectively in an action-oriented organization.
Skilled in facilitating effective meetings with internal and external stakeholders
Bilingual: Fluency in English & proficiency in Spanish (this is not required, but is a nice to have)
