Summary: The Maine Democratic Party is hiring a Senior Communications Advisor to support Democrats up and down the ballot this cycle. This is a senior-level role focused on developing and executing the communications strategy to hold Senator Collins accountable ahead of the 2026 election. This person will lead a sophisticated rapid response operation, create press plans, build events, pitch stories, and serve as an on-the-record spokesperson for the state party.
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute earned media strategy to hold Senator Collins accountable ahead of the 2026 election
Work with the campaign for the Democratic U.S. Senate nominee and the state party on earned media strategies to support the Maine U.S. Senate race and Democrats up and down the ballot
Build and maintain relationships with the state and local press corps
Serve as the primary spokesperson for the party regarding the Maine U.S. Senate race
Quickly draft and edit communications materials including press releases and talking points
Build press conferences and events
Pitch trend, analysis and opposition research stories
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong preference for two to three cycles of campaign or political communications experience
Track record of successful work directly with reporters and on-the-record experience
Strong verbal communication skills
Ability to write quickly and on deadline for wide variety of press materials
Experience developing and implementing communications strategies and plans
Understanding of how to prioritize competing responsibilities and multiple organizations while managing rapid response in a fast-paced work environment
Team player attitude and committed to working well with others
Demonstrated commitment to Democratic causes

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Salary is dependent on experience and is in the $7,000 to $9,000/month range. This is a full-time position that offers a generous benefits package.
This position is based in Maine with some in-office work required at MDP’s headquarters in Augusta.
