This is an in-person position with flexible hours (10–20 per week) based in Hoboken, NJ, and runs through the November 4th general election and potentially a December 2nd run-off. Role Overview
Emily Jabbour is seeking part-time interns to assist with campaign tasks as needed before the November election and potential December run-off. This internship is ideal for a motivated student or recent graduate interested in politics, government, or public service.
Emily was elected to the Hoboken City Council in 2017 and was re-elected in 2021.
For 19 years, Emily has proudly worked as a civil servant for the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services in the Administration for Children and Families (ACF). Emily has lived in Hoboken since 2008 and founded the Hudson County Chapter of Moms Demand Action, a grassroots advocacy organization focused on preventing gun violence, which led to her path into local politics. Emily has a Master of Science in Social Work Policy from Columbia University School of Social Work, and a Bachelor of Arts from Boston College. Emily is a mom of two daughters (ages 10 and 12), an active supporter of the Hoboken Public Education Foundation, and a regular volunteer with the Hoboken Food Pantry (part of the Hoboken Community Center).
On the City Council, Emily has led the Vision Zero Task Force to address pedestrian safety, spearheaded strengthening rent control protections for tenants, served as Council President in 2023, and has been the most responsive City Councilmember when it comes to constituent questions and concerns. Responsibilities may include:
Maintain and update campaign databases using platforms such as NGP, ActBlue, ELEC, and CallTime AI.
Support donor outreach, including research, list management, and follow-ups.
Organize and manage internal spreadsheets to support fundraising and voter engagement.
Monitor and summarize daily social media activity from both Emily and her opponents.
Contribute creative ideas for the campaign’s digital and social media content.
Knock on doors and speak with voters.
Attend and staff outreach and fundraising events.
Other tasks may be assigned based on the campaign need and discretion of the campaign manager/field director.
Requirements for this position:
Demonstrated interest in campaigns, politics, government or public service.
Willing to work 12-16 hours per week, particularly after Labor Day.
Willing to knock on doors, talk to volunteers and voters on the phones, and embrace tasks and projects as assigned.
Able to work collaboratively with a diverse team of staff, interns, volunteers, and consultants.
Great interpersonal skills — ability to listen well and communicate effectively.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Able to work under pressure and under tight deadlines.
Strong commitment to Democratic politics and ideals and electing Democratic candidates.
Additionally, the ideal candidate is someone who:
Has experience knocking on doors for a campaign, talking to voters on the phone, or working with volunteers.
Has experience in or knowledge of Hoboken as a city and its politics.
Familiarity with digital tools like Google Sheets/Docs, Google Calendar, and email.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
