Organizational Overview: The Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to grow communities' connection, capacity, and consciousness to strengthen pro-immigrant power in Florida.
Job Description
The Florida Immigrant Coalition Community Organizer reaches and engages community members and supports community members’ leadership and growth within the immigrant rights movement. The Community Organizer builds immigrant power by developing and maintaining relationships, building connections between individuals and our coalition.
Programmatic:
● Conduct outreach and recruitment of community members during FLIC and partners’ events and institutions identified by FLIC in partnership with identified individuals eligible for participating in any of the service programs.
● Host information sessions
● Participate in legal services drives, including Citizenship, TPS, and others, to provide information about FLIC, facilitate Know Your Rights Training, and recruit allies, volunteers, and members.
● Help identify and manage volunteers when appropriate
● Follow-up with Services Department participants for organizing opportunities, voter registration, and volunteer recruitment.
Partnership Building and Volunteer Management:
● Serve as liaison between FLIC and its partners with phone calls or face-to-face meetings as needed.
● Build relationships with, and develop awareness and commitment of community leaders and diverse stakeholders to support project efforts
● Engage the partners in info sessions and workshops/clinics
● Support volunteer recruitment and training Program Reporting:
● Ensure tracking and monitoring of data
● Prepare and submit monthly or quarterly reports as indicated in the contracts Program Communications:
● Work closely with Communications to ensure: ○ Community events flyers are created and scheduled in a timely manner for dissemination ○ Events are posted in the calendar (FLIC, FNA, Website, social media) ○ Provide content feedback on marketing materials related to the Services Department ○ Share with members events from our organizational members and partners
Qualifications:
● A minimum of two years of professional experience in community organizing or community outreach
● Project management experience with demonstrated ability to solve problems, meet tight deadlines, manage resources effectively, and work in teams and with people of diverse backgrounds
● Attention to detail, strong writing ability, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work at a fast pace while managing project requests are required.
● Passion for social, racial, gender, worker justice, immigrant rights, and Florida politics is preferred.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs is required; Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop are a plus.
● Must have their vehicle and be willing to drive.
● Must work a flexible schedule, including weekends or evenings, and be able to travel locally
● Language proficiency in Haitian Creole and/or Spanish is a plus
