JOB DESCRIPTION

Bee Compliance was launched in April 2020, with the goal of providing accessible, client focused compliance services to democratic and progressive organizations and candidates. We understand that every organization and campaign is different, and we aim to provide a tailored and comprehensive compliance experience to each of our clients—which means transparency, ample review times, and “reconciled to the penny” reports. We offer a wide range of services including drafting, reviewing, and filing required campaign finance reports with relevant regulatory bodies (FEC, Secretary of State, etc.), as well as basic accounting and bookkeeping services.

Job duties

The Compliance Director will work exclusively on our candidate team to provide compliance services to the ever-growing roster of Bee Compliance Clients. This position will also provide important oversight and management to the junior members of our candidate team, in addition to helping improve internal processes and procedures. The Compliance Director’s duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Act as Client Lead where appropriate, and advise clients on best practices at the Federal, State and Local level.

  • Lead and oversee managers and associates in the report creation process for Federal, State and Local Campaign Finance Reports.

  • Assist associates and managers with troubleshooting bank and report reconciliations when necessary.

  • Oversee the maintenance and hygiene of client campaign finance databases.

  • Assist with payroll processing, bill payment and accounting for clients where needed.

  • Build out and manage procedures for new and existing clients, specifically around set up and compliance program operations.

  • Assist with staff development and training for current and new employees.

  • Participate in and lead development of an inclusive, interesting and developing company culture that empowers associates and managers.

  • Management of special projects as needed.

  • Collaborate with Partners as a member of the firm’s leadership team on company policies, staffing and new business opportunities.

  • Regularly provide updates to Partners on status of compliance projects and reports

  • Participate in strategic planning at the company level.

  • Ensure that direct reports are completing client deliverables in a timely manner.

  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience in Candidate Campaign Finance Compliance, either internally at a campaign or at a firm.

  • A collaborative working style with experience managing employees to serve multiple clients or complete multiple competing projects simultaneously

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing

  • Strong organizational skills to ensure that deadlines are met and partners are informed of project status

  • Robust technical skills (experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft OneDrive, Google Workspace applications, NGPVAN and Quickbooks Online is desired, but the ability to learn new programs is required)

  • A sense of ownership over your work/the work of those you manage and proactivity in seeking guidance and direction, when needed.

  • Prior bookkeeping experience a plus

While the organization is currently remote, there is a preference for candidates in Washington, DC, where business operations are based.

Starting salary for the Compliance Director is $110,000. Bee Compliance offers a generous benefits package, which includes three weeks of paid vacation, two weeks of personal/sick time, an employer sponsored 401k with 3% employer contribution, and 100% Employer paid Medical, Dental and Vision insurance.
