About the Campaign:

Jason Knapp is a 21-year Navy veteran, former F/A-18 combat pilot, and former NATO Executive Officer running for Congress in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District in 2026. VA-01 is a geographically large and diverse district that includes rural communities, growing suburbs, and a significant population of military families.

 

The campaign is building a disciplined, voter-centered operation focused on voter contact, fundraising, and clear, consistent messaging. The goal is to run a competitive, data-driven campaign through both the primary and general election.

 

The consultant team is in place. The campaign is now seeking a Campaign Manager to oversee daily operations and execution through Election Day.

 

Position Overview

The Campaign Manager is the senior day-to-day leader of the campaign and is responsible for executing the campaign plan through Election Day. This role oversees staff, coordinates consultants, manages the candidate’s schedule and priorities, and ensures that campaign operations remain organized, energized, and on track to meet campaign objectives.

 

The ideal candidate is highly organized, politically experienced, calm under pressure, and able to balance strategic decision-making with operational execution.

 

Core Responsibilities:

Campaign Leadership & Strategy

  • Implement and manage a comprehensive campaign plan covering voter contact, fundraising, communications, and field

  • Translate strategic goals into clear weekly and daily priorities for staff and consultants

  • Track progress toward campaign goals and adjust plans as conditions change

 

Candidate Management

  • Manage the candidate’s schedule, including direct voter contact, call time, fundraising events, endorsement meetings, and public appearances

  • Ensure the candidate’s time is focused on the highest-impact activities

  • Prepare briefing materials, talking points, and background information as needed

  • Travel with and staff the candidate as required

 

Field Oversight

  • Oversee execution of the field plan, including canvassing, volunteer recruitment, phone banking, and community outreach

  • Ensure consistent progress toward voter contact and persuasion goals

  • Track volunteer engagement and voter contact metrics

  • Coordinate candidate participation in field activities

 

Communications & Digital Coordination

  • Coordinate with communications and digital consultants to ensure consistent messaging, branding, and tone across platforms

  • Support rapid response and message discipline

  • Monitor performance metrics (engagement, list growth, conversions) and flag issues as needed

 

Fundraising & Budget Management

  • Work closely with fundraising consultants to support the fundraising plan and maximize call time effectiveness

  • Monitor and manage the campaign budget in coordination with the treasurer and consultants

  • Ensure campaign resources are allocated strategically and responsibly

 

Staff & Consultant Management

  • Hire, manage, and supervise campaign staff as the team grows

  • Serve as the primary point of coordination for consultants across field, communications, digital, and fundraising

  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable team culture

 

External Representation

  • Represent the campaign professionally with endorsing organizations, community leaders, donors, and stakeholders

  • Serve as a liaison between the campaign, party organizations, and allied groups

 

Compliance & Operations

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable campaign finance and election laws in coordination with the treasurer and outside compliance firm responsible for FEC reporting and regulatory filings

  • Oversee internal systems, reporting, and documentation

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

  • Strong strategic thinking combined with practical execution

  • Proven problem-solving skills and sound judgment under pressure

  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to manage up, down, and across a team

  • Prior political campaign experience

 

Preferred:

  • Campaign Manager, Deputy Campaign Manager, or senior staff experience on a competitive race

  • Experience working with outside consultants

  • Familiarity with VAN/VoteBuilder, NGP, or similar campaign tools

  • Virginia political experience or relationships
