The Opportunity: DPW seeks an intelligent, personable, organized, self-starting individual to lead our data team on a full-time, permanent basis. As Data and Analytics Director, you will play a leadership role at the party, helping to grow the data team, informing DPW’s electoral strategy work, partnering with other departments (including digital media, organizing, and voter protection) to execute projects, and using data to ensure DPW’s work leverages our resources effectively and reflects DPW’s values. This position is expected to devise targeting universes for the Coordinated Campaign and work with our national partners as the 2024 cycle ramps up. In coordination with the Deputy Data Director, the Data and Analytics Director will handle the day-to-day data needs of races in Wisconsin, county party organizations, state and federal campaigns, and activists.
Job Responsibilities:
Serve as the subject matter expert on DPW’s data and technology infrastructure, using data and analytics to support the work done by the party.
Design and build reports and tools for other departments and for external partners in line with key programmatic priorities, particularly the organizing and voter protection teams.
Work with the Organizing department to support year-round field work in Wisconsin through pulling together VAN reports and analysis to support program development.
Maintain and respond to a ticketing system for data support requests and flags.
Working closely with the Deputy Data Director to ensure successful updates of the voter file and absentee data, as well as to successfully administer VAN features such as user permissions, accounts, and committees.
Help WisDems make intelligent, efficient choices about their technology and choice of vendors; serve as the main point of contact for project work with external technology vendors and consultants (where applicable).
Build data pipelines, integrations and automated workflows for reporting and data flow purposes using tools such as Google BigQuery to streamline data tasks.
Produce analysis of voter contact results, early vote and absentee turnout, voter registration, and other data relevant to campaigns and present these effectively to leadership.
Provide timely and relevant analysis of data and fielding requests for specialized research projects, in many cases requiring rapid turnaround.
Develop and present training materials on VAN and other voter contact tools to the organizing team in statewide, small group and one-on-one settings.
Use BigQuery, SQL, and other analytical tools / programming languages of your choice to evaluate targeting models and other data assets available to DPW and decide how to strategically incorporate them into program work.
Support other members of the data team to complete projects as necessary, including administering tools such as VAN, dialer systems, and other voter contact platforms.
Design and implement field experiments to better understand DPW’s organizing and paid media work.
Ahead of the 2026 election, hire and lead a diverse team of data staff to execute data work that supports large, robust organizing and voter protection programs.
On year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election-preparation as necessary.

Qualifications (Preferred):
At least one cycle of campaign experience in a political data role.
Familiarity with Wisconsin politics.
Proficiency in Python.
Hands-on experience with SQL/BigQuery and NGPVAN vansync tables in the context of political data.
Past experience working with organizing tools in the progressive political space, such as Reach, Scale to Win, Hubdialer, ThruTalk, Mobilize, ActionNetwork, and similar products. Experience with the data backends of these tools, including setting up VAN integrations and creating reports.
Experience pushing and pulling data via the APIs of widely used political vendors, such as NGPVAN, Civis Platform, Reach, Google BigQuery and Cloud Storage.
Advanced knowledge of Google Sheets/Excel.
Working experience with Civis Platform or the Google BigQuery/Cloud Storage data warehouses.
Working knowledge of voterfile data – including loading the voterfile into VAN – and understanding possible sources of bias in voterfile data.
