ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Beyond Petrochemicals: People Over Pollution is seeking a Data and Research Manager to play a key role in building a comprehensive program to stop the build out of the petrochemical industry, reduce demand for plastics, and support the movement of advocates fighting petrochemicals.
Beyond Petrochemicals will transform the US industrial sector, ensuring more local victories in the transition to a clean economy, supporting laws that protect communities from harm, and reducing the greenhouse gas emissions that are fueling the climate crisis.
The Data and Research Manager will work closely with leaders across the campaign to analyze and evaluate data and research from a variety of sources. They will identify risks and opportunities based on their analysis and help inform the development of campaign tactics and effective communications. They will help lead and build a data and research team.
The Data and Research Manager will contribute to both the communications and campaign teams by developing internal systems to track data, manage metrics on an internal dashboard, catalogue insights from partner research, contribute to research projects, and help develop data informed narratives that contribute to effective storytelling. They will bring a practical understanding of the use of data, research, and analytics in the climate space and be able to recognize new indicators in the research and see opportunities for new and effective ideas in campaign strategies.
The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with the ability to synthesize and evaluate research and data and understands how this information can shape persuasive stories to drive change. They will be able to quickly gain mastery over a wide range of technical subjects, possess a keen eye for finding information that supports campaign goals, and can track data metrics over a wide range of platforms.

ABOUT BEYOND PETROCHEMICALS
Beyond Petrochemicals is a fiscally sponsored project of the Resources Legacy Fund (RLF), launched in September 2022 by Bloomberg Philanthropies after seeing unprecedented growth in the petrochemical industry, which contributes to climate change and its detrimental impact on the health of communities.
Drawing on the success of Bloomberg’s Beyond Coal and Beyond Carbon campaigns, Beyond Petrochemicalsis turbocharging existing efforts led by frontline communities to block the expansion of more than 120 proposed petrochemical projects concentrated in three target geographies – Louisiana, Texas, and the Ohio River Valley. Beyond Petrochemicals is also working to establish stricter rules for existing petrochemical plants to safeguard the health of American communities.
The campaign will identify opportunities for grassroots activation, strategic communications, capacity-building, research, and policy advocacy to drive US petrochemical production into permanent decline.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Data and Research Manager is full-time, exempt, and reports to the Campaign Director. This is a remote position with occasional travel required (quarterly), may be located anywhere in the US with the ability to work East Coast hours, and is responsible for the following:
Carefully track the US petrochemical industry, especially its plans for physical infrastructure development.
Stay well-versed on industry-related data, trends, and research in all its forms with a practical understanding of the use of data science and analytics in the climate space and using this knowledge to identify risks and opportunities.
Work closely with the campaign’s technical consultants to identify sources of information from governmental organizations.
Coordinate closely with campaign leadership, especially with the Chief of Staff, Campaign, Communications, Legal and Policy Director, to ensure they are equipped with verifiable and quality research they can use to achieve the campaign’s goals.
Manage, organize, and maintain the campaign dashboard of projects and progress across regions.
Share new key research findings quickly with leaders and allies in the campaign.
Translate technical information into easily understandable products for different audiences, including internal communications, social media posts, campaign flyers, policy memos, legal filings, and more.
Review and make recommendations on research proposals from outside entities, including contractors, nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, investigative reporters, and others.
Coordinate with external research organizations to provide input to the campaign and its allies about how to deploy research findings as effectively as possible.
Track research timelines and deliverables and help analyze the campaign’s progress toward its goals.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Strong candidates will offer:
A minimum of five years of professional experience in research and analytics in campaigns and organizations.
Experience in diverse databases (environmental, science, and finance), high-performance computing, and information filtering.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to synthesize complex data and research from a variety of sources into clear and cohesive written and visual products.
Ability to work in a team and effectively collaborate with others inside an organization.
Experience coordinating multi-faceted projects, preferably in the environmental, public health, or climate change space.
Ability to respond rapidly to changing priorities, objectives, and situations.
Strong sense of initiative and excellent judgment.
Ability to travel as needed, at a minimum of quarterly.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
LOCATION, COMPENSATION, AND BENEFITS
Flexible with the ability to work East Coast hours.
Salary starts at $100,000 and is commensurate with experience.
RLF offers an alternate Fridays off work schedule (employees work 40 hours one week, 32 hours the next week) and a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k plan with a 5% match, and generous paid time off.
