JOB DESCRIPTION

The Vermont Democratic Party (VDP) is seeking a Data Director to handle the day-to-day data needs of the VDP, Vermont Democratic town and county committees, and municipal, state and federal campaigns. This position will work across departments, with the DNC, and with partner vendors to apply existing data and incorporate new data to build successful campaigns, to train grassroots volunteers, and campaign and VDP staff on best practices, and to improve the quality and utilization of the VDP’s data inventory.

Though Vermont’s overall data pool is small, that same size gives a data director exciting new opportunities to develop and test creative new strategies.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with data on political campaigns or with state parties and political data.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing, supervising, and supporting user access to Vermont Democratic Party data systems including VAN, Votebuilder, and more

  • Collaborating directly with users to fine-tune their use of the systems for a wide variety of end goals across the entire spectrum of political work

  • Developing and implementing training for all users including candidates, campaigns, grassroots workers, and allied groups

  • Identifying, acquiring, and uploading new datasets that support campaign and political work, using 21st century best practices for data work in politics

  • In collaboration with partners, leading creative new research on Vermont voter data to explore cutting-edge ways to analyze and use data effectively in political campaigns

  • Working with DNC and vendor partners to maintain data integrity

  • Overseeing voter contact campaigns to update and test data strategies

  • Powering the Vermont Democratic Party’s goals around building a more just future where all can thrive

Qualifications/Skills:

-Knowledge of VAN/Votebuilder and NGP, with preference for administrator experience

-Experience with SQL, python, or other coding languages effective for analyzing large datasets

-Experience with data visualization languages or platforms

-Experience training low information volunteers and power users alike on data systems

-The ability to translate statistical concepts and data for general audiences

-1-2 cycles of electoral campaign experience

-Ability to manage details and multiple simultaneous tasks

- Responsiveness and timeliness in communications
