JOB DESCRIPTION

Background: Yes on 4 is a statewide campaign of allied organizations and concerned citizens working together to protect Floridians’ access to reproductive health care and defend the right to bodily autonomy. This campaign is focused on winning Amendment 4, the campaign to remove politicians from private medical decisions around abortion. From March to November 2024, the campaign will focus on raising money, earning media, mobilizing voters, building coalitions, and securing 60%+ support at the polls. Candidates should have successful experience leading communications efforts for statewide issue advocacy, elections, or ballot campaigns. The Deputy Communications Director reports to the Communications Director of Yes on 4.

** Job Description:** The Deputy Communications Director for Yes on 4 is responsible for supporting and implementing communications plans designed to support the campaign's goal of passing a constitutional amendment protecting the right to abortion in the state of Florida. The Deputy Communications Director will work with the Communications Director to oversee earned and paid communication efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

● Draft and edit talking points, press releases, op-eds, speeches, and other outgoing copy, and oversee day-to-day approval processes;

● Oversee the identification and training of spokespeople for the campaign alongside a paid media firm;'

● Work on day-to-day press responsibilities and rapid response;

● Work with the Communications Director to develop short and long term communications strategies;

● Execute earned media events and seek new opportunities for press engagement;

● Provide input and expertise on paid media strategies; and

● Provide support to the Communications Director for managing schedules, reviewing research and coordinating between other campaign committees.

 

Qualifications:

● Proven experience in communications and program management, with a focus on issue advocacy or political campaigns. Statewide or national experience is strongly preferred.

● Multi- or bi-lingual candidates highly preferred.

● Strong understanding of reproductive rights and familiarity with the Reproductive Justice movement is highly preferred.

● Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively managing a diverse team of organizers and volunteers.

● Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including public speaking, campaign messaging, and report writing.

● Detail-oriented, with exceptional organizational and project management skills.

● Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing campaign needs.

● Knowledge of Florida's political landscape and experience working on ballot campaigns, electoral campaigns, or with local organizations is an asset. Additional Considerations:

Additional Requirements:

● This is a full-time position until November 30th of 2024. The position is based in Florida and is remote, within the state.

● The Deputy Communications Director will report to the Communications Director

● Must have personal transportation and be able to travel around Florida as needed

● Must be able to work on nights and weekends as needed.

● Must be able to hold this position through November 30th, 2024.
