JOB DESCRIPTION

The Maryland Democratic Party is seeking Deputy Field Organizers to assist in managing our grassroots organizing efforts.  

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in political organizing and learn the inner workings of a political campaign. Our aim is to give you not only the training and experience you need to be successful in campaign work, but also to help you develop hard skills you can carry with you to all future employment opportunities. Extensive training opportunities, including in work beyond field organizing (finance, communications, etc.) as well as the chance to hear from elected officials and candidates will be part of our program. 

This role can expect to do trainings one to two evenings per week, and work on the evenings. This is an entry level, part time position that is equivalent to a paid internship. Deputy Field Organizers can expect to become well qualified candidates to work on future political campaigns in Maryland and surrounding areas. All Deputy Field Organizers will be expected to participate in a post-election presentation detailing what they learned. 

The Maryland Democratic Coordinated Campaign is determined to keep Maryland blue and elect Angela Alsobrooks and Democrats up and down the ballot. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Volunteer Coordination: Assist in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers for various campaign activities and events.

  • Community Outreach: Conduct outreach efforts, including phone banking, canvassing, and attending community meetings to engage with voters and supporters.

  • Data Management: Maintain and update databases with voter information, volunteer sign-ups, and outreach activities.

  • Communications: Assist in drafting campaign materials, social media content, and newsletters.

  • Organizing Work: Participate in door-to-door canvassing, phonebanking, text banking, and other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Higher education may be useful but is not required. Skills necessary to be successful in this role will be taught during the program. 

  • Passion for Politics: Strong commitment to Democratic values and enthusiasm for elected Angela Alsobrooks and Democrats up and down the ballot. 

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well with diverse groups of people and build relationships.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, and data management tools.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. 

  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel within your assigned region as needed. 

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Must be over the age of 18 to apply to this position. 

This position is based in one of our regional offices and reports directly to a Field Organizer.

**Employment Type: **Part-time up to 30 hours per week. This position’s schedule will vary based on the needs of the campaign and will require evening and weekend work over the course of the election cycle. This position is at-will employment.

Compensation: $16 per hour. 

Anticipated Start Date: August 27th
