Ship Creek Group (SCG) specializes in projects with clear end goals that require multiple competencies, including local campaigns, ballot initiatives, and marketing for nonprofits. We are a one-stop-shop, our work ranges from coordinating a candidate’s schedule, to rebranding local nonprofits and small businesses, to shooting and producing professional TV commercials. Our team is built around the idea that a small group of folks with shared values and different skills can get stuff done more effectively by working together. We adhere to the simple premise that our work should push forward leaders, organizations, and ideas that raise the bar in our community.

Position: Deputy Finance Director

Location: Anchorage, AK (Position requires in-person work)

Job type: Full-Time Exempt (Permanent role subject to the outcome of a bi-directional check in after 6 months)

Start date: March 2026 (flexible)

Salary range:$70,000-$80,000/year, commensurate with role and experience

Reports to: Sam Smith, Finance Director

Benefits: 5 weeks PTO, paid holidays, health insurance, retirement plan, profit-sharing opportunities

About the role

We believe great candidates don’t always follow a traditional path. While this role involves leading fundraising programs, you don’t need a background in fundraising to succeed. If you bring strong management skills, political instincts, and a willingness to learn, we’ll provide on-the-ground training and team support to set you up for success. Please treat the description below as a guide—not a checklist. If this sounds like a fit, we’d love to hear from you.

Bottom line: we’ve got a strong structure, a talented team, and big things on the horizon. We’re looking for someone who can grow with us and help shape what’s next. Salary will flex based on experience, with room to grow in future cycles.

This role will involve managing key programs and cross-functional coordination within a collaborative team. Duties & areas of activity*

Candidate Management (25%)

  • Work with candidates, hosts and key invitees to plan, develop, coordinate and execute fundraisers

  • Work with candidates and teammates to draft fundraising materials in the candidate’s voice, including letters, text messages, emails and documents

  • Coordinate directly with candidates on scheduling for a variety of fundraising activities

Fundraising Program Execution (75%)

  • Build and manage tailored fundraising systems for each campaign or project—from setting up donor databases and calltime structures to creating unique donation pages and budgets.

  • Develop and track finance plans, monitor weekly goals and projections, and flag underperformance with time to adapt.

  • Organize tasks and deadlines using Wrike; manage donor prospecting; and coordinate calltime logistics to keep contacts, emails, and voicemails up to date and effective.

  • Lead the execution of fundraising events—including cohost recruitment, promotion, logistics, and staffing—and ensure PAC outreach is initiated within the first month of a campaign.

  • Keep donor relationships strong with timely thank-you cards sent out monthly through election day.

  • Partner with the Digital Fundraising Manager to launch compelling fundraising emails and texting programs.

  • Staff calltime sessions and develop calltime lists

  • Work closely with the Compliance Team to ensure all fundraising activities are documented and reported to APOC (or the FEC) accurately and on time.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers to align fundraising materials with broader messaging and strategy.

*Actual time allocation may vary by workload, with more support needed for candidate campaigns during the launch period and for non-candidate campaigns in odd years.

Desired qualifications

We’re looking for candidates who bring three or more of the following strengths:

  • Team Leadership – You know how to rally a team, build trust, and keep things moving—even when there are a lot of moving parts.

  • Fundraising Experience – Maybe you’ve dialed for dollars, run events big or small, or built lasting donor relationships for campaigns or causes.

  • Alaska Connection – You have roots in Alaska, a strong understanding of the state’s unique political landscape, or a deep interest in helping shape its future.

  • Political Instincts – You’ve been in the mix—on campaigns, at nonprofits, or in advocacy—and know how to navigate fast-changing dynamics with grace and grit.

  • Systems Mindset – You love building processes that work. Whether it’s organizing data, managing complex timelines, or creating streamlined workflows, you bring structure to the chaos.

Bonus Points If…

  • You’re fluent in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive) and love a good project management tool.

  • You thrive in the hustle of campaign life and can stay energized when things move fast or hours get weird.
