Description

The Michigan Democratic Party is seeking experienced Deputy Organizing Directors for the 2026 Coordinated Campaign. We are looking for passionate, hardworking individuals who are committed to building the grassroots turnout operation needed to win close elections this November.

At their core, Deputy Organizing Directors are coaches, who are always ready to roll up their sleeves and jump onto the field. They will be responsible for coaching and managing a team of Regional Organizing Directors, and will be critical in helping set the statewide culture and consistency in the regions they oversee.

This is a critical role serving on the organizing leadership team and will work closely with other departments and the Organizing Director to implement programs that elect Democrats up and down the ballot. This is a full-time position based in Detroit, Michigan and reports to the Organizing Director.

Key Responsibilities & Characteristics

  • Manage, coach, and support Regional Organizing Directors and organizing staff.

  • Develop strategies and systems that lead your regions to successfully meet and exceed daily, weekly, and phase organizing goals, as well as maintain data integrity.

  • Motivate a large team of staff through building team buy-in to organizing goals, contributing to strong statewide culture, and providing growth opportunities 

  • Oversee performance metrics and data integrity across regions, ensuring consistent and effective use of NGP VAN and other organizing tools.

  • Collaborate closely with other departments such as data, operations, and voter access.

  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development of organizing staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Organizing Director.

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 2+ cycles of organizing experience, with a strong preference for at least 1-2 cycles of experience managing paid staff

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Proven fluency with VAN, Mobilize, and other organizing tools

  • Attention to detail, highly-developed organizational skills, and ability to communicate with stakeholders and laterals across departments

  • Ability to work within a team to achieve shared goals across a statewide program 

  • Ability to thrive in fast pace environment, work long hours including weekends, and manage high pressure situations 

  • Willingness to travel as needed; access to a reliable vehicle, laptop and cell phone required
