Job Description

Cartwright for Congress is hiring a Deputy Organizing Director to assist in the execution of organizing efforts in Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District to re-elect Congressman Matt Cartwright. We are looking for dedicated, passionate, applicants who are committed to electing Congressman Cartwright and truly believe in the power of grassroots organizing.

Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District is centered around the Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre/Stroudsburg/Hazleton area in northeastern Pennsylvania. Congressman Cartwright is running for his 7th term in Congress in another highly competitive election. Last year, Congressman Cartwright won by 2.4 points, becoming the only Democrat in the country to win a Trump district in 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022. Congressman Cartwright is a constant fighter for the people of northeastern Pennsylvania by helping to lower prescription drug prices, expand passenger rail service, deliver federal tax dollars back to the people he serves, and combat the climate crisis.

**Timeline: **June 1, 2024- November 15, 2024

**Responsibilities:**
- Assist in the hiring, management, and training of a team of organizers and paid fellows and support the team to meet their goals.
- Develop and maintain organizing infrastructure to ensure organizing team members are meeting and exceeding short and long term goals.
- Maintain and grow relationships with county parties, grassroots and grasstops organizations, and both up-ballot and down-ballot campaigns.
- Design and implement organizing programs and strategies revolving around youth outreach, digital organizing, and relational organizing.
- Implement data reporting and communication standards within the organizing team.
- Assist in the planning and execution of direct voter contact events.

**Qualifications (Required):**
- At least one cycle of organizing experience, including executing get out the vote (GOTV) efforts.
- Willingness to move to northeastern Pennsylvania.
- Strong self starter, and team player that is willing to put the team first to ensure that all members are successful.
- Previous experience developing volunteer relationships, and working with grassroots organizations.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to develop relationships with staff, and volunteers from different backgrounds and areas of the district.
- A strong understanding of Votebuilder, Google Suite, and digital organizing tools.
- Access to a cell phone and laptop.
- Access to a vehicle and valid driver’s license.
- Ability to be flexible and work long, non-traditional hours, including weekends.
- Highly organized and a strong attention to detail. 
- Have a passion for getting down-ballot candidates elected.
- Dedication to building long term organizing infrastructure.

- Conversational in Spanish.
- Ties to or experience working or organizing in northeastern Pennsylvania.
- Experience organizing in rural areas and diverse communities.
- Experience managing staff or interns.
