JOB DESCRIPTION

About the Opportunity

The Michigan Democratic Party seeks a talented, driven, strategic Deputy Voter Access Director for Programs to join our team for the 2026 Coordinated Campaign. Michigan will be one of the most closely-watched states during the 2026 Midterm election cycle, and the Voter Access Department will play a critical role in ensuring that every eligible voter is able to cast a ballot that will count and that all legally cast ballots are counted.

The Deputy Voter Access Director for Programs will work closely with the Voter Access Director to organize the MDP’s statewide Voter Access effort. We are seeking someone who is fueled by the satisfaction of fighting for justice and defending democracy, an organizer or political operative who is eager to build an army of volunteers who will work together to create meaningful and lasting change for Michigan and Michiganders. This position reports to the Voter Access Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a robust election observation program, including recruiting and training volunteers, assignment, reporting mechanisms, and issue-resolution processes; the observation program will address all voting and ballot-counting activity.

  • Manage and support multiple staff members responsible for recruiting, assigning, and supporting volunteers.

  • Develop training and reporting systems to support the Voter Access Team, including the Boiler Room during voting periods, ensuring that voters’ issues are thoroughly documented, resolved where possible, and escalated as appropriate.

  • Develop and maintain strong data practices, ensuring that all staff and volunteer reports are timely, accurate, and escalated appropriately.

  • Support the wider Voter Access mission through supplemental recruitment and training assistance as needed.

  • Prepare regular reports for national partners and other stakeholders.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Voter Access Director.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2+ cycles of experience on a political campaign or equivalent experience working in a voter protection or organizing role or some combination of comparable political, voter protection, and organizing experience.

  • Ability to manage up, down, and horizontally within a team to ensure timely and efficient communication and advancement toward established objectives.

  • Familiarity with voter protection issues and programmatic priorities and operations; experience and familiarity with Michigan elections is a plus.

  • Experience communicating complex issues to a lay audience for informational and engagement purposes in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Experience using LBJ, VAN/Votebuilder, Google Suite products, and other database tools to track and manage volunteers, voters, and issues.

  • Strong organizational and strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate analysis into action.

  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced campaign environment, which may require long, irregular hours, including some nights and weekends.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and balance competing priorities.

Compensation and Location

The salary is $6,500 per month. Applicants must live in or be willing to relocate to Michigan. This position includes a full benefits package of health, vision, and dental insurance coverage.
