Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) is a national organization that brings white people into fights for racial and economic justice. We work to undermine the power of the Far Right and build the white flank of multiracial majorities fighting for the things all communities need. We organize white people by engaging their shared interest-- what they stand to gain by joining alongside people of color. We do this through 150+ local chapters across the US and Canada, a National Membership base, and local base building projects in the South.
SURJ is seeking a Development Database and Finance Associate who will play a key role on the development team by maintaining an accurate database with maximized reporting and automations to support SURJ’s ambitious fundraising goals.
A successful person in this role will ensure data accuracy and integrity, oversee gift processing and gift acknowledgment, direct the monthly and yearly development/finance gift reconciliation process, run regular development reports, including weekly giving reports, monthly progress to goal reports, and development activity reports, and manage the donor tracking system in coordination with our larger team. This role will also work closely with the larger SURJ data team to ensure that fundraising data is integrated with other kinds of data tracked in our CRM. We are looking for someone who is data driven, loves a spreadsheet, is excited about taking on complex tasks and finding solutions to data problems, and is motivated by SURJ’s mission.
This position will report to the Deputy Director of Development. This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment are subject to negotiations for a Collective Bargaining Agreement. The person taking this role will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure and Confidentiality Agreement because they will have access to confidential information.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following :
Priority 1: Data Management (50%)
Maintain electronic gift and donor documentation records.
Complete gift processing procedures which entails manually entering gifts in
EveryAction, overseeing gift tracking from ActBlue and other financial processing tools, and reconciling gift information with the Finance department.
Upload bulk data as provided by Development staff into EveryAction, including notes and next steps, to support accurate tracking of donor engagement and fundraising asks.
Support accurate moves management plans for SURJ’s solicitors, so that EveryAction reflects the most up to date information about donor engagement.
Maintain glossary of tags, activist codes, and revenue streams related to SURJ’s financial data and ensure these data tracking tools are fully utilized.
Priority 2: Cash Flow and Financial Reporting (30%)
Supply Finance team with relevant data from EveryAction for accounting purposes.
Generate bi-monthly cash flow reports to track progress towards monthly, quarterly, and annual fundraising goals.
Meet regularly with the Finance team to compare fundraising results to projections.
Manage reporting at the close of each quarter to assess fundraising progress and guide the Development team’s adjustments in fundraising strategies.
Manage revenue streams in EveryAction and leverage SURJ’s CRM to generate financial reports as needed.
Maintain financial reporting dashboards under the direction of the Deputy Director of Development.
Priority 3: Donor Engagement Support (20%)
Manage automations for SURJ’s donor thank you process and execute gift acknowledgements in a timely manner in coordination with SURJ solicitors.
Format email templates and complete A/B testing in EveryAction for fundraising emails in collaboration with Development staff.
Provide timely and friendly technical support to donors who would like to donate, have questions about their payments or would like to manage recurring donations.
Generate pledge reminders and partner with Development staff to facilitate pledge payments.
Support the donor tax letter process on a quarterly basis.
Support Development staff with administrative tasks, including appeal mailings, pulling custom reports, and tracking event registrations.
3+ years of experience managing member and donor databases in EveryAction or a similar database.
3+ years of experience handling confidential financial data, tracking donations, and generating income reports.
Experience working on or closely with a Development team, with a clear understanding of the role data management plays in building strong, sustainable organizations and movements.

Familiarity with organizing spaces and electoral work, and a commitment to racial, social, and economic justice.
Class consciousness and the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with members, board, and staff from diverse class backgrounds, communities, geographies, and cultures.
Understanding of fundraising as organizing and giving as an action.
Prior experience with EveryAction or another fundraising CRM strongly preferred.
Proficiency in Google Workspace, particularly Google Sheets, strongly preferred.
Experience with ActBlue preferred.
Experience with SQL and BigQuery preferred.
Experience with Asana or a similar project management software preferred but not required.

Annual Salary: $65,000
