Democratic Municipal Officials (DMO) is a national organization representing current and future Mayors, City Council Members, Commissioners, School Board Members, and Special District Representatives across the United States who identify with the values of the Democratic Party. As the official organization of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) representing local elected officials and candidates, DMO serves as the Democratic voice in local politics and the local voice within the Democratic Party.
POSITION SUMMARY
DMO is searching for its next Development Director to lead the organization’s fundraising efforts. In collaboration with the Executive Director (ED) and the Board of Directors (the Board), the Development Director (DD) is responsible for leading all aspects of the organization’s fundraising and event planning. The DD will lead all fundraising activities in collaboration with staff and the Board to ensure continuous revenue streams to support mission-critical activities. The DD, in conjunction with the ED, will be responsible for fiscal oversight, including budgeting, tracking revenue and expenditures, ensuring compliance, and presenting financial reports and programmatic updates to the Board.
LOCATION
This position is Remote. Based in Washington, DC, is preferred, but not required. The position is full-time and requires occasional travel.
SALARY / BENEFITS
Salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $75,000 - $90,000 annually. At DMO, we offer a rewarding work environment for our staff. This is an exempt position and is ineligible for overtime.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the primary fundraiser, ensuring the organization has a steady income stream from sponsors, donors, and organizations, through, but not limited to, direct solicitations, national events, membership drives, digital campaigns, etc.
Work with the ED to set an aggressive fundraising strategy, including implementing an annual fundraising calendar for digital, events, and other targeted fundraising campaigns.
Work with the ED to maintain fiscal oversight of the organization, including monitoring income and expenses for all fundraising channels, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
Maintain a consistent stream of fundraising prospects and conduct regular donor research.
Work with the DMO team to draft and execute all fundraising communications, talking points, and scripts.
Manage call time for all DMO Board members, ED, and other principals.
Work with the DMO team to build and maintain the donor database and trackers.
Work with the DMO team to manage events, including venue and other vendor management, sponsor engagement, promotional items, and more.
Lead fundraising efforts for DMO’s Political Action Committee (PAC), and help to ensure proper reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
At least four years of professional experience fundraising for Democratic Party organizations, Democratic political campaigns, Labor Unions, issue advocacy, or related organizations. National fundraising experience and/or PAC experience preferred.
Proven commitment to the mission and principles of DMO and the Democratic Party.
Comprehensive understanding of political fundraising principles and tactics.
Experience managing large-scale events.
Experience with NGP, ActBlue, Bill.com, and other financial management tools.
Expertise in Google Suite tools, especially Google Sheets.
Willingness to travel and work non-traditional hours when necessary.

Must display strong attention to detail, and be organized, responsive, and timely.
