JOB DESCRIPTION

Digital and Press Assistant — James for NY 2026

The Digital and Press Assistant keeps the campaign's story moving in the press and across every social media platform. The role blends earned media support, digital content, and communications operations — working with the communications director to ensure press materials are sharp and on time, the campaign's social presence is active and on message, and the communications team has what it needs to drive coverage and reach voters across the state.

Responsibilities

  • Press monitoring — Conduct daily media monitoring and news tracking; produce clip reports and actionable insights for the communications team.

  • Press materials — Draft, edit, and copyedit press releases, media advisories, statements, and talking points, with clear and consistent messaging across departments and spokespeople.

  • Press prep — Prepare briefing materials for press availability, interviews, and public appearances.

  • Inbox management — Help manage the campaign press inbox, fielding and routing media inquiries.

  • Social media — Manage the campaign’s social media calendar across platforms, developing and scheduling a mix of timely and evergreen content.

  • Content production — Produce short-form video and digital content (Reels, graphics) in line with campaign messaging.

  • Influencer relations — Develop and maintain relationships with influencers and content creators to amplify campaign initiatives and reach new audiences.

  • Digital activations — Support the planning and execution of digital activations, creator partnerships, and campaign events.

  • List management — Maintain and update press lists, media contact databases, and influencer rosters.

  • Writing & Copy — Assist with drafting campaign newsletters, email communications, and web copy.

Qualifications

Required

  • 1–3 years of experience in communications, political campaigns, government press offices, or closely related fields.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, compelling messages on deadline.

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts and a working knowledge of platform analytics tools.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment.

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the campaign.

Preferred

  • Experience in a government, municipal, or political campaign press office.

  • Proficiency with Cision, Critical Mention, Meltwater, or similar media monitoring platforms.

  • Graphic design skills and familiarity with Canva or equivalent tools.

  • Experience with influencer or creator relations and managing large networks of content partners.

  • Fluency in a language other than English is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $7,500/month base salary.

  • $1,000/month healthcare stipend.

  • Full-time position through the November 2026 general election.
