The Opportunity

We Are Down Home (WDH) is seeking a full-time Digital Content Producer to support our content and needs as we organize with rural and working-class communities across North Carolina. 

The Digital Content Producer will work with the Communications Department to manage and develop content that reflects our values, uplifts our narrative strategy, and upholds our theory of change across various platforms, including website, social media, and email. 

The Digital Content Producer will be a member of Down Home’s Communications team and will report to the Sr. Information Strategist. 

The ideal candidate is a digital communications expert who is highly motivated to build and give voice to a powerful multiracial base that wins changes for poor and working-class people in rural places. They are an energetic creator, an experienced digital storyteller, and a skilled editor and designer who is able to adapt quickly to our changing political landscape in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Winning local campaigns to raise the minimum wage for city workers, prevent evictions, and oppose the expansion of local jails

  • Growing a statewide membership base that includes all 100 counties of North Carolina

  • Establishing member-led chapters across eleven counties, stretching from mountains to sea

  • Anchoring the first southern, rural deep canvass and race-class narrative tests

  • Holding and growing a statewide coalition to fight for public schools

 

Buckets of Responsibility

  • Collaborate with the communications team to create high-quality, engaging content across various formats, including social media updates, blog posts, videos, and infographics that follow Down Home’s message guidance and theory of change.

  • Design and implement content strategies that effectively align with organizational goals and target audience needs while prioritizing conversion into offline organizing. 

  • Generate fresh and innovative ideas to improve social media presence and reach a wider audience.

  • Collaborate with our political and organizing teams with the supervision of the Sr. Information Strategist to produce time-sensitive deliverables.

  • Support community outreach through content that promotes events, initiatives, and campaigns to foster community involvement and participation.

  • Manage and implement the editorial calendar and our distribution platforms with support from other communications staff; lead and take ownership of specific projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality output.

  • Assist in the creation of comprehensive digital content archives. Maintain statistics and generate data, as needed. 

  • Stay informed about the unique issues and challenges faced by poor and working-class communities in rural North Carolina and incorporate that knowledge into content creation and community engagement strategies.

 

Required skills and experience

  • Trust builder: Ability to establish credibility and respect with colleagues, and an understanding of how to build strong, long-term relationships. Build relationships with staff, members, contractors, and stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds.

  • Skilled Creator: Demonstrated ability to create dynamic, engaging content across platforms, both print and digital. 

  • Skilled Communicator: Ability to take narrative and messaging guidance and turn it into impactful, consumable content. Content marketing experience is a plus.

  • ​​Effective project management skills: Demonstrated ability to successfully meet deadlines, set goals, develop realistic work plans, and adjust work to meet emerging needs. Highly organized and with strong attention to detail. Proven ability to manage complex schedules, multiple projects, and responsibilities.

  • Mission alignment: Committed to the vision of a powerful, inclusive, rural, multiracial, working-class movement-building as a path towards liberation for all people.

 

Familiarity with Canva, Adobe, and other design and video editing software required; Social Media, WordPress, EveryActio,n and scheduling software experience preferred. Personal or professional experience living in rural communities, living in the South, and/or organizing in the South are a plus but not required. Requires experience in developing and implementing independent judgment, excellent people skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills

Some irregular hours are required, including nights and weekends. Location is flexible within North Carolina. Applicants must be able and willing to travel for in-person meetings as needed.

 

Compensation

Compensation for this full-time, salaried, permanent staff position is between $63,550 and $76,836.70 annually, based on experience in accordance with the union pay scale, and includes best-in-class health and retirement benefits. 

We also offer competitive benefits, including a sabbatical policy and relocation stipend. This position is eligible to accrue paid time off at 8 hours per month for the first year and 80 hours of sick time upon the start date. This role is hybrid and will include in-person work. Location is flexible within North Carolina. This role is exempt from overtime pay. This role will be managed by the Senior Narrative Strategist.

This position is eligible for inclusion in Down Home’s bargaining unit.
