Position Summary:

The Director, Elected Leadership Pathways, is a member of the Member Impact – Elected Leadership Team and reports to the Senior Director of Elected Leadership Recruitment & Pipeline. This role is responsible for coaching and developing strong, robust pipelines of future elected leaders across a portfolio of regions that is reflective of the member communities that we serve.

The Director inspires and supports members in pursuing elected office by presenting opportunities in a compelling manner, motivating them to act on their passions, identifying pathways for political engagement, and coaching them to launch effective campaigns. They also oversee the smooth transition of member candidates into partnership with the Elected Leadership, Candidate Development & Coaching sub-team, when appropriate.

The Director will own the strategic vision for building a robust and scalable candidate pipeline across a national portfolio of regions, while the Manager of National Candidate Recruitment will translate this vision into action by driving the execution of recruitment efforts to identify and support candidates ready to run for elected office. Additionally, the Director is charged with innovating and scaling recruitment practices to create a robust, predictable, and inclusive pipeline of leaders. The Director is expected to bring fresh ideas, evolve the recruitment model, and help expand the program’s reach and impact, ultimately strengthening members' civic leadership capacity and influence.

**Travel Requirements: **20% including up to 6 multi-day site visits and 2-3 team retreats per year

Responsibilities:

Member Coaching & Leadership Development (30%)

  • Coach, develop, and support a portfolio of members exploring or pursuing elected leadership roles, helping them assess readiness, clarify vision, and navigate their unique leadership path

  • Track individual progress and engagement over time in Salesforce, using data to inform ongoing coaching strategy and program design

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create and connect individuals with relevant trainings, resources, and peer communities

  • Guide members' learning and convert them to action, helping them progress in their leadership journey and ultimately run for elected office

  • As requested, co-facilitate national member programs focused on elected leadership candidates

Candidate Recruitment Strategy & Innovation (30%)

  • Design and own the strategy of a robust and scalable candidate pipeline across a national portfolio of regions, partnering with the Manager of National Candidate Recruitment and the THRIVE team to execute; ensure consistency, impact, and long-term sustainability

  • Design, test, and refine innovative recruitment strategies that increase efficiency and impact, and share key learnings to strengthen org-wide practices

  • Manage and optimize reporting systems that provide actionable insights into the health and effectiveness of the candidate pipeline

  • Develop and own cultivation and recruitment strategies informed by member data, trends, and analysis of past performance

  • Partner with the Manager of National Candidate Recruitment to design, test, and refine innovative approaches that enhance recruitment effectiveness and efficiency; share key learnings with the THRIVE recruitment team

Portfolio & Candidate Experience Management (30%)

  • Oversee a portfolio of regions, collaborating with the Manager of National Candidate Recruitment to design and implement effective recruitment strategies that build a robust candidate pipeline

  • Lead onboarding and training of regional Member Engagement staff on the 5Ms elected leadership curriculum, as needed

  • Coordinate with the Director, Candidate Development & Coaching, to provide seamless transitions, allowing our candidates access to LEE campaign supports

Special Projects (10%)

  • Lead or contribute to team-level, org-wide, or cross-team special projects to accelerate impact as assigned by manager or designee

  • Provide short-term coverage during a leave, vacancy, or PTO

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience

  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience in coaching, electoral campaigns, policymaking, and/or community organizing

  • Demonstrated success in coaching adults in a professional setting to improve their practice or make a decision

  • Proven ability to build and leverage relationships with diverse audiences and partners

  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage multiple stakeholders to implement plans in fast-moving, changeable environments

  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated success in managing and operating data systems

  • Ability to analyze data and identify useful metrics and trends to inform strategy

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate within a geographically dispersed team

  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to LEE’s mission, core values, and theory of change

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience personally running for elected office

  • Service on a public board (elected or appointed)

  • Experience in digital engagement

Physical Requirements & Work Demands:

  • This position is primarily a sedentary role working with colleagues based around the country using remote technologies.

  • The person in this position will need to have the ability to travel to in-person meetings in various U.S. cities.

  • Occasional evening and/or weekend work is required.

The position level for this role is Director 2 and the corresponding pay range for this position is $93,900-$146,520. ** **Pay is competitive and based upon relevant experience and cost of labor for your location.
